'Van Helsing' Season 4 will see Vanessa trying to stop Sam and the Oracle on her own without any back-up

Though Vanessa would have hoped that Lily could help her complete this task, the older Van Helsing was tragically killed in a vampire attack in the final moments of the episode, refusing to be turned into a vampire even if it means she will have to die.

After spending most of the last season trying to hunt down the vampire Elders and use them to find the Dark One, Vanessa Van Helsing (Kelly Overton) now has a new mission. 'Van Helsing' Season 4's first episode has revealed some interesting new developments that suggest that this season is going to involve yet another hunt and a possible solution for the vampire crisis.

To start off, Vanessa and her newly revived ancestor Lillian Van Helsing (Julie Lynn Mortensen) managed to escape Sam (Christopher Heyerdahl), the newly ordained Fourth Elder, despite being sorely outmatched thanks to the Oracle (Jesse Stanley) telling Sam that they need a living Van Helsing to free the Dark One. Sam makes a pact with the Oracle to follow her faithfully after learning that there are three other vampires, all of whom are second only to the Dark One, and that it could be his destiny to one day become the Dark One himself.

Meanwhile, the Denver Safe Zone is lost in the Sisterhood attack and every defense that Blak Tek has developed against the Daywalking vampires fails to bring them down. There's a pretty brutal scene where Julius (Aleks Paunovic) attacks Scab (Rowland Pidlubny) with a grenade and manages to blow up the lower half of his body, exposing his intestines, but ultimately even that attack fails to put a real dent in the Sisterhood's assault.

However, it turns out Julius might actually be the key to this whole crisis as it turns out he has mutated to possess vampire healing even though he's not a vampire anymore. This makes him humanity's best shot at winning back the world from the undead; if Doc (Rukiya Bernard) can figure out how to replicate his abilities that is.

Vanessa's new mission is to hunt down Sam and the Oracle before they find the other great vampires and free the Dark One. She would have hoped that Lily could help her complete this task but the older Van Helsing was tragically killed in a vampire attack in the final moments of the episode, refusing to be turned into a vampire even if it means she will have to die. That leaves Vanessa on her own with pretty much no back-up or intel outside of what she can glean from the pages of the Van Helsing book. What was already an uphill battle just got a whole lot harder.

'Van Helsing' Season 2 airs exclusively on Syfy with new episodes dropping every Friday.
