UFC's Tyron Woodley says Donald Trump isn't racist and only understands money: 'It's about green to him'
UFC star Tyron Woodley, who has been a longtime critic of President Donald Trump, recently said that he did not believe that the POTUS was a racist. Instead, the only color the president cared about was the color green.
Woodley began by telling TMZ that his words are not going to sit well with many African-American fans of his, adding that he believed that the color of cash matters more than any other color to Trump. "I don't think he's racist. Some Black people are going to be upset with me... If you have green on your face to him, he's gonna f**k with you. Black, White, green, purple, blue. I think it's about green to him," he told TMZ. "I think if you're caucasian, and you don't stand for what he stands for, he gonna say the same s**t as he said when he said he was gonna build a wall."
The topic of Trump came up during a discussion about Woodley's highly anticipated clash with Colby Covington on September 19 — a flight that has been years in the making. His opponent is a well-known hardcore supporter of Trump and even was invited to meet the president at the White House in August 2018 after he defeated Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 225 earlier that year. It is common knowledge that the president's sons are huge supporters of Covington and both Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump were in attendance when Covington defeated Robbie Lawler in 2019. Trump even personally gave Covington a call to congratulate him after the fight.
Woodley opened up on what he thought about Trump when he was asked how he felt knowing that the first family will probably be watching when he takes on Convington. "They don't really f**k with Colby, come on now," he said. "They know its a gimmick. He's a joke to them. He's using Donald Trump as a gimmick and they know it... they may watch this fight and they do know who I am, one because I probably s**t on them a couple of times on our show... so he's definitely gonna watch the fight but it doesn't motivate me anymore because they are into gimmicks as well."
He made it clear that he did not think Trump was a competent president because he did not come from a background of experience. "He's not a commander-in-chief that came from a long history of serving in the military branch and being a general or being a politician. He was a reality tv star and that's how he got his name. So he uses gimmicks. I think some of the times we just think he's friggin' missing a few screws he put something out, I think it's on purpose," Woodley said.
Woodley also opened up on why the upcoming fight held more significance than any of his past fights. "I am mentally in a better place. I am training my a** off. There is so much more at stake at this fight than just win or loss. There's a political play to it. Its a lot of social inequalities... you know what I stand for," he added.
