UFC newcomer Christian Aguilera trends after winning fight as internet confuses him with Christina Aguilera
MMA fighter Christian Aguilera is enjoying his well-deserved title after winning over Anthony Ivy in the UFC 250 card which premiered on ESPN 10 today (June 13). By emerging a winner in his UFC debut, "The Beast" has garnered the attention of fans from across the globe. Internet users have flooded Twitter with appreciation for the 28-year-old Christian. One fan wrote, "So glad Christian Aguilera won his UFC debut and in under a minute. This dude been terrorizing guys in shows all over SoCal. Glad to see him get what he deserves."
However, he is also trending on Twitter for a completely different reason. Several social media users who weren't aware of Christian's latest UFC win confused him with singer Christina Aguilera. Many tweets were, in fact, directed at the singer asking if she participated in the fight against Anthony. On learning about the tweet, "Christian Aguilera defeats Anthony Ivy via TKO at 0:59 of Round 1. Both fighters had their debut in the UFC," one user responded, “Had to re-read this. Really thought Christina Aguilera was fighting."
Another added, "Wonder how many people are currently on the 'Christian Aguilera' trending page because they misread it as 'Christina'." Meanwhile, a few turned the confusion into memes. One user shared, "Let's see some Christian Aguilera hockey highlights while 'Dirty' by Christina Aguilera plays in the background. Gotta fill the gaps!" Adding to the above tweet another user said, "ugh I'm all for these Christian/Christina Aguilera jokes right now."
"Christian Aguilera making his octagon debut here. I was irrationally disappointed when I learned that singing legend Christina Aguilera was not making her UFC debut and that this is a completely different human. Let's see if this man has the moves like jagger anyway," read a tweet. Some of them used both names in their tweets to eliminate further confusion.
"It's always nice to start a #UFC card out with an easy win. Christian not Christina Aguilera at +165 gets the knockout win over #AnthonyIvy. 'The Beast' just set himself up for a nice payday in his next fight." wrote one. Another tweet read, "What a debut by Christian Aguilera and yes I was automatically supporting him because he only needs to swap the a and n to be the queen that is Christina Aguilera."
To clear the air — despite their matching second names, the two have no relation to each other.
