Why did Elon Musk assign Matt Taibbi the Twitter files? Author to return with ‘big surprises’
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: Elon Musk teamed up with author and journalist Matt Taibbi to unveil the 'Twitter Files' that essentially exposed the tech giant's compliance with political leaders to suppress the Hunter Biden laptop scandal. The revelation named several top execs of the platform, such as Vijaya Gadde, who was later fired by Musk when he acquired it. Taibbi was provided with the documents by Musk that have dropped several truth bombs. Why did Musk choose Taibbi for this task and why did the latter agree to it?
The reason why the billionaire tech mogul teamed up with the 52-year-old journalist is that the latter agreed to certain conditions" before getting ahold of some major scoops. Moreover, Musk had previously liked one of Taibbi's reports which could be the reason why he chose to outsource this task. Taibbi specially wrote to his Substack readers, "What I can say is that in exchange for the opportunity to cover a unique and explosive story, I had to agree to certain conditions. Those of you who’ve been here for years know how seriously I take my obligation to this site’s subscribers." He continued, "As it happens, there may be a few more big surprises coming, and those will be here on Substack. And there will be room here to to discuss this, too, in time. In any case, thanks for your support and your patience, and please hold me to a promise to make all this up to you, and then some."

It's been a whirlwind 96 hours for me, too. There is much more to come, including answers to questions about issues like shadow-banning, boosting, follower counts, the fate of various individual accounts, and more. These issues are not limited to the political right.

Reason why Elon Musk chose Matt Taibbi for 'Twitter Files'
Taibbi, along with Musk, revealed how Twitter, under CEO Jack Dorsey's command, was able to retain information and go to the extent of using blockers (used for child pornography) to suppress the laptop scandal ahead of the 2020 elections. Taibbi ended the relay revelations by writing, "It's been a whirlwind 96 hours for me, too." However, he hinted that he will be returning with more revelations writing, "There is much more to come, including answers to questions about issues like shadow-banning, boosting, follower counts, the fate of various individual accounts, and more. These issues are not limited to the political right."
Taibbi coined the famous term "giant vampire squid" in 2009 to describe investment bank Goldman Sachs and since then he has been maintaining a rather friendly relationship with Musk. Before acquiring Twitter, Musk promised that he would maintain transparency and claimed that it was important to restore the public's faith before announcing the Twitter Files thread. The self-described free speech absolutist also promised to restore former president Donald Trump's Twitter account, which he did.
