Who is Wycked aka Mopreme? A look at Tupac Shakur's family tree as late rapper's stepbrother slams Trump campaign
Tupac's stepbrother, Mopreme Shakur, most recently slammed President Donald Trump's campaign for using the late rapper's name as a prop to make fun of his political rival, Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris. Speaking to TMZ, the American rapper, who goes by the name of Wycked, said that it was "clearly disrespectful" for his family after the Trump campaign left a ticket for Tupac at the Vice Presidential debate.
Mopreme said, "We should know Trump's lack of respect for the Black and Brown community," adding that he knows the president will not say sorry. However, the late rapper's stepbrother appears to be aiming high as he suggested that Trump could make it up to the family by releasing his father, Mutulu, from prison.
A month ago, Harris had an "oops" moment when during NAACP's virtual convention she called the late hip-hop legend Tupac Shakur the "best rapper alive". She then got trolled by the Trump campaign. According to the New York Post, the Trump campaign had said that they had invited long-dead rapper Tupac to attend the vice presidential debate, referring to the mistake made by Democrat Joe Biden’s running mate.
Tupac, known by his stage name 2Pac, died on September 13, 1996. The hip-hop artist was killed on September 7, 1996, in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada. The rapper was only 25 years old at the time of his death. Even though he was carried to the hospital, he succumbed to his wounds after six days. Since Mopreme has come into the spotlight after a long time, here's a look at what Tupac's family tree looks like.
Afeni Shakur — Mother
Afeni Shakur was Tupac's biological mother. Known to be a strong and fierce woman, she was an active member of the Black Panther Party. Tupac was very close to his mother and even dedicated the song ‘Dear Mama’ to her. Afeni died in May 2016 following a heart attack at the age of 69.
William Jefferson 'Billy' Garland — Father
According to the publication CapitalXtra, William Jefferson 'Billy' Garland stayed away from Tupac’s life until he got famous. Tupac had talked about Billy in various songs where we got to know that while growing up, the rapper believed that his father was dead or simply had no desire to see him. Billy died in 1999.
Lumumba Shakur — Afeni's First Husband
CapitalXtra reported that Lumumba Shakur was the leader of the Black Panthers in Harlem and he married Afeni in 1968. The couple got arrested a year later and was charged with several counts of conspiracy. Afeni was pregnant with Tupac when she was sent to jail. It is believed that Lumumba left Afeni when he discovered he was not Tupac's biological father. He died in 1971.
Mutulu Shakur — Afeni's Second Husband
Mutulu, a black revolutionary and trained acupuncturist, was the adopted step-brother of Lumumba Shakur. Mutulu married Afeni after Lumumba's death. Tupac and Mutulu shared a close bond and they even penned a set of rules discouraging unprovoked violence between gangs, which is famously known as ‘Code Of Thug Life'. In 1988, Mutulu was sentenced to 60 years in prison for RICO conspiracy, armed bank robbery and bank robbery killings. Mutulu went on trial in 1987 and got convicted on May 11, 1988. He was denied parole in 2016 and 2018.
Elmer Pratt — Tupac's Godfather
Just like Afeni, Elmer Pratt was also a member of the Black Panther Party. A highly respected military veteran, Elmer was falsely accused of murder in 1972. He served 27 years in prison before getting released. Tupac’s song ‘I Ain't Mad At Cha’ was dedicated to him and Mutulu. Elmer died of a heart attack in Tanzania in June 2011.
Assata Shakur — Tupac's Godmother
Assata Olugbala Shakur is known as a former member of the Black Liberation Army (BLA). She was convicted of murder, however, she managed to escape to Cuba in 1979, where she was granted political asylum. She is not a blood relative of Tupac.
Mopreme 'Komani' Shakur — Tupac's Stepbrother
Mopreme Shakur is the son of Mutulu Shakur. Along with 2pac and friends Big Syke, Macadoshis and Rated R, he formed the group called Thug Life. Mopreme has also been a part of group Outlawz. He now works in film producing, writing and composing.
Yaki Kadafi — Tupac's Godbrother
Yaki Kadafi was an American rapper and a founder and member of the rap groups Outlawz and Dramacydal. Tupac and Yaki shared a close bond with each other and the latter used to visit Tupac every day when he got jailed in 1995. Yaki was found dead at the age of 19 just two months after Tupac's murder.
Katari Terrance Cox — Tupac's Cousin
Katari Terrance Cox, who is better known by his stage names K Kastro and K-Dog, was one of the members of Tupac’s group Oultawz. He is also the blood cousin of the late hip-hop legend. He featured on many of the late rapper's songs including hit singles such as ‘Made Niggaz’ and ‘Hail Mary'.
Sekyiwa 'Set' Shakur — Tupac's Half-Sister
Sekyiwa and Tupac shared the same mother Afeni while her father is Mutulu. She has been mentioned in the late rapper’s several songs with her nickname ‘Set'. The half-sister of the legendary artist, who is now 45 years old, has always maintained a low profile.
Takerra Allen — Tupac's Half-Sister
Tupac’s other half-sister is Takerra Allen. She is the daughter of William Jefferson 'Billy' Garland. Takerra, who is now an author, is 13 years younger than Tupac. Unfortunately, Takerra could never meet Tupac in person but yes, they did share a phone call and a couple of letters before he died.
