LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: The long-standing mystery of Tupac Shakur's unsolved killing has seen a breakthrough after 27 years as Las Vegas police have arrested a man who has been tied to the drive-by shooting of the rapper in 1996.

On Friday, September 29, Keefe Davis whose real name is Duane "Keffe D" Davis was taken into custody and he will face a charge of murder in connection to Shakur's death, reported CBS News.

Keefe Davis previously claimed his deceased nephew killed Tupac Shakur

In September 1996, rap mogul Marion Knight known as Suge, and Shakur, 25 were shot on the Las Vegas strip and Davis had been public about his involvement as a witness in the shooting.

According to the South Side Crompton Crips gang head's account, he was one of four occupants in a white Cadillac that pulled up alongside Shakur's vehicle, per New York Post. Shots were fired from the Cadillac, striking the rapper four times, which led to his eventual demise six days later.

Davis claimed in his memoir 'Compton Street Legends' that he is one of the "three living eyewitnesses” to Shakur's killing and identified his nephew Orlando Anderson as the one behind the Grammy-winning rapper's death.

However, Anderson, who was part of the South Side Compton Crips gang denied being involved in the fatal shooting. At the age of 23, he died following another gangland shooting, two years after Shakur's death.

Authorities conducted a search at Keefe Davis' wife's home

In July 2023, a search was conducted at Davis' wife Pamela Clemons' home in Nevada.

During the search, investigators seized computers, laptops, iPads, and a .40-caliber cartridge, similar to the casings recovered from the crime scene in 1996.

Retired LAPD detective Greg Kading who previously investigated Shakur's death talked about the members involved in the shooting.

"Davis gave the gun to his nephew, who was in the car with them, and collectively, they went out and intended to shoot Tupac. He provided the gun, and his nephew did the shooting, so they are all equally guilty under solicitation for murder," he said.

"I am super excited because this is huge! We knew this wasn’t an unsolved case, and now it looks like they have taken it to a point where they can officially close it. For the rest of history, Tupac’s murder will not be considered an unsolved crime," Kading added.

Was Tupac Shakur's murder gang-related?

Tupac was immediately transported to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada following the shooting. On September 13, six days later, he died of cardiac arrest.

The gunman in the tragic shooting had never been identified and it is suspected that the murder was gang-related. Shakur was associated with the Bloods street gang.

He had engaged in a fight with Orlando Anderson following a boxing match that featured Mike Tyson and Bruce Seldon on the night of the shooting.
