'True Beauty' Episode 5 began with Su-ho (Cha Eun-woo) and Seo-jun (Hwang In-yeop)fighting over Ju-kyung (Moon Ga-young) but from the beginning, she makes it clear to Seo-jun that she will not entertain his sudden interest. He tries his best to get her to reciprocate even the tiniest bit of interest in him but it doesn't work out. Also, at the beginning of the episode, we also see Seo-jun approach Ju-kyung only after he sees Su-ho begin to walk towards her. He clearly intends on not letting Su-ho feel even a moment of happiness as punishment for whatever part he played in their friend Se-yeon's death but aren't they being unfair towards Ju-kyung who has no idea about any of this and toying with her emotions?

This becomes especially apparent when Seo-jun taunts Su-ho about if Ju-kyung would ever accept him if she were to find out the truth about how he had abandoned his friend. That is when Su-ho's attitude towards Ju-kyung also changes. From wanting to start a new chapter with her and date her to avoiding her and telling her to not cross the line because he was being nice to her only because he pitied her — the transformation is shocking.

Of course, this hurts Ju-kyung more than anything. She had finally found someone who had accepted her for who she was without any makeup on and to hear him say that he only treated her well because he pitied her is not the best thing, especially for someone who is struggling with low self-esteem and bullying. If he had rejected her when she had asked him out for a movie, it wouldn't have made as much of a difference as him pitying her had.

Su-ho on the other hand, believes that he is protecting Ju-kyung and he continues to shield her from Seo-jun even after acting like a jerk in front of her. This doesn't last too long however since Ju-kyung ends up finding out about Se-yeon and about Su-ho being the one who had helped her and saved her when she had considered jumping to her death. She begins to put everything together and understands that he might have been under pressure as that was the day Se-yeon had died a year ago. So she ends up revisiting the terrace where they first met and coincidentally, that is exactly where Su-ho ends up at as well.

He had been upset after hearing Se-yeon's song at the school festival and the song triggered his guilt that he had buried all this while. So he went to the place where Se-yeon had been last. So despite how mean he had been towards her, she helps him and comforts him. Can the two of them really move past this misunderstanding and will Seo-jun let them? From what we saw in the episode, it looks like Seo-jun has finally realized the error of his ways when it comes to using Ju-kyung after watching her get hurt by Su-ho. So he may just let the two of them be, but can this conflict between Su-ho and Seo-jun really be resolved?

'True Beauty' episodes will air on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10.30 pm on tvN in Seoul, and can be streamed on Viki in the US.
