BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA: The devastated family of a 33-year-old Canadian man, who died in a horrific snowmobile accident, donated his organs and saved 13 lives. Trevor Lee Shine Pierce, from Williams Lake, BC, died following an accident on February 26 when he was attempting to load a snowmobile onto a truck for an upcoming trip.

Trevor’s wife Shanelle Pierce said he was riding up the ramp but it unexpectedly fell down and then snapped back up before hitting him in the head. Shanelle claimed her cousin performed CPR and her son held pressure on Trevor’s head until an ambulance arrived, but at the hospital, she was informed that her husband was mortally injured, WL Tribune reported. The family brought Trevor to Kamloops for a second opinion, however, on February 28, the trauma experts confirmed his prognosis and informed Shanelle that her husband was brain dead.

How did Trevor save 13 lives?

On March 3, Trevor’s organs were donated to 13 different recipients. His heart, liver, two kidneys, and pancreas helped 5 patients while the lenses of his eyes provided sight to eight different people. “It’s nice to think about how many people got to put their lives back together in a time of tragedy for us,” Shanelle told Global News. She added, “People who got a kidney, don’t have to sit with dialysis three days a week for four hours a day. They can travel again. Whoever got his heart can … I know someone who received a heart, and they’ve lived another five years so far.”

Trevor leaves behind his wife and three children - twins Owen and Olivia, both eight years old, and Braelynn, four. Shanelle noted that her husband’s death is a warning to those who use ramps to load their snowmobiles. “Everybody must take precautions with these ramps,” said Shanelle. She added, “Please remember my husband and tie down your sled ramps to ensure your family isn’t left without their father, mother, son, or daughter.” The devastated wife claimed that her children’s trampoline has far more safety warnings than dangerous ramps.

'They need to have a warning'

“They need to have a warning that if safety features are broken off, then you shouldn’t be using them. And they need to be recommending a secondary tie-down,” she further added. Shanelle claimed that certain sled ramps include safety features, but that these features can come loose or that ramps can be sold again without them. Shanelle stated that this is only the beginning of her campaign and that she will go on advocating to raise awareness of the dangers that poorly secured ramps pose to public safety.
