'TRE CNT': Release date and all you need to know about Dwayne Johnson and Issa Rae's HBO upcoming wrestling show

Dwayne Johnson, Issa Rae and Dany Garcia are tagging together for a new HBO series that is currently titled 'TRE CNT' (and is pronounced as 'TRE COUNT', a play on the wrestling phrase 'three count').

The project explores the life of an aspiring professional wrestler as he makes his way up the ranks.

With most information about the project kept under wraps, here is everything you need to know about the project.

Release date

There is no release date set up for the HBO series. MEA WorldWide will update this article when it is announced. 

Plot

According to reports, the series will be focusing on "Cassius Jones, a young dockworker and struggling pro-wrestler, who uses inherited life-insurance money for start-up cash and the deed to a shotgun house from his grandfather to start a hip-hop centric backyard wrestling empire in Houston’s Third Ward (The Tre) with the help of his working-class family, neighbors, and friends."

Cast

Information about the cast of 'TRE CNT' (aka 'TRE COUNT') is not confirmed and/ or released yet. MEAWW will update this article when it is released. 

Creators 

Johnson, Rae and Garcia are set to executive produce the series that is written by Mohamad El Masri, who also serves as the executive producer. Judah Miller will executive produce and serve as showrunner. Johnson and Garcia will executive produce along with Hiram Garcia under their Seven Bucks Productions banner. 

Garcia and Johnson executive produced the series 'Ballers,' in which Johnson also starred. Seven Bucks most recently produced Johnson's film 'Jumanji: The Next Level' and 'Fast and Furious Present: Hobbs & Shaw,' among his other theatrical releases.

El Masri has previously written 'Here and Now' for HBO and the recently-released Netflix series 'October Faction.'

Rae is an executive producer on HBO's 'A Black Lady Sketch Show' and has previously written 'The Photograph' and 'The Lovebirds', which will debut on Netflix on May 22, 2020 (the theatrical release was canceled because of the pandemic).
