Iconic Bay Area producer Traxamillion, who was one of the key artists in pushing the hyphy movement, died on Sunday, January 2. He was 43. The sad news of his demise was first shared by the blog Thizzler on the Roof. Hip-hop fans then quickly thronged Twitter as they could not believe the shocking news. For the unversed, the term ‘hyphy’ is a hip-hop slang from Oakland that means hyperactive. The term is usually used to describe hip-hop artists.
 
Speaking of rappers dying this year, artist VNZA was shot and killed in Missouri back in June. Brooklyn rapper Supa Gates too faced a similar fate after he was shot multiple times at St John’s Place near Troy Avenue in Crown Heights on April 11. Chicago rapper KTS Dre too made the headlines after he was shot 64 times on his head and other parts of his body in July 2021. Bay Area rapper Mike Darole was another hip-hop artist who was fatally shot during an attempted robbery in May 2021.

How did Traxamillion die?

Traxamillion’s real name was Sultan Banks and he made a name of himself after he dropped records such as Keak da Sneak's ‘Super Hyphy’ and Dem Hoodstarz’ ‘Grown Man Remix’. The hip-hop producer’s debut album titled ‘The Slapp Addict’ comprised a compilation of Bay Area hyphy artists and was released in August 2006. Traxamillion also worked with acclaimed hip-hop artists such as E-40, City Girls, Paul Wall, Yukmouth, Andre Nickatina, Mac Dre, Messy Marv, Joyner Lucas, T.I., Freeway, The Lonely Island and a few others.

Speaking on the cause of his death, an official statement is still awaited. However, a few social media users hinted that he lost the battle to cancer. While breaking the unfortunate news, the Twitter page of Thizzler on the Roof stated, “Rest In Peace @traxamillion The San Jose producer who helped create the "Hyphy" sound passed away today. This is a huge loss for Northern California Broken heart We send our condolences to his family & loved ones. #RIPTraxamillion”. Renowned producer Metro Boomin too took to Twitter to share an emotional post. While bidding a final goodbye to the hip-hop producer he said, “RIP TRAXAMILLION the legends are always the ones who bring something to the game that shifts it.”



 



 



 



 

‘Dude’s accomplishments will never be unappreciated’

Hip-hop fans flocked to Twitter to pay their final respects to Traxamillion. “Legend. thanks for all the inspiration”, said one user as another posted, “WE’RE STILL GOING TO BE GOIN DUMB AT THE SIDESHOWS IN YOUR HONOR! R.I.P. Traxamillion… A Bay Area Legend.”  One chimed in to tweet, “Didnt really kno him well but remembered hearing his producer tag in my favorite sac n bay area rappers. RIP.” The next one shared, “NO NO NO IS THIS REAL!!!???? RIP Trax much love bro from the shark tank!!!! u always held it down for #sj ill never forget how i seen u selling phones at #eastridge before making classic bay slaps!!!!”
 
One user posted, “Rip to a real entrepreneur verified trap legend.” Meanwhile, another posted, “Thanks for my bomb a** childhood songs bruh.” One individual asserted, “Wtf??!!? What happened??! Another shared, “RIP!! He was hella young still. This is weird, it’s like, someone just has to die every day for random a** reasons”, as one concluded, “Traxamillion helped push a movement when hyphy ruled the bay.
