'Transparent' costars Bradley Whitford and Amy Landecker are married now! The surprising announcement came from the West Wing alumnus on Thursday as he took to Twitter to write: "In a shocking, totally unearned plot twist, Commander Lawrence married Mrs. McKenzie today in Santa Barbara." The actor was making a reference to their 'Handmaid’s Tale' characters. “The shark may have been jumped, but the couple is thrilled," the groom added in his tweet.

Whitford's amusing Twitter message was accompanied by a picture of the newlyweds along with their dog. The photo showed Landecker wearing a simple blue dress as she held a bouquet in her hands, while Whitford wore a suit as he leaned into his wife.

Reports state that the couple had confirmed their plans to marry in March 2017 after 59-year-old Whitford and 49-year-old Landecker attended the 11th annual Celebration of the 2018 Female Oscar Nominees event in Beverly Hills. Landecker, at the time, was wearing a diamond engagement ring.

Despite meeting in 2014, the actors did not begin to date until the summer of 2015, and later in September they made their red carpet debut at the Creative Arts Emmys.

Whitford, while talking to People at the season 2 premiere of the hit Amazon show, had said: "Things with Amy are spectacular. I met her last year, but we didn’t start dating for a little while. I work slowly."

While Landecker previously told the outlet: "I knew Bradley for a year before we dated and I kind of thought that he seemed like a cocky actor boy and I wasn’t really that interested. Now I’ve learned that if I don’t like someone at first, that’s probably a sign that they’re perfect for me because my taste is so bad… Now I’m the happiest I’ve ever been."

Whitford was previously married to actress Jane Kaczmarek for 16 years and their relationship ended in 2009. The former couple have three children together. While Landecker was previously married to Jackson Lynch and their relationship ended in 2011. They have one child together.
