'Top Chef': Jennifer Carroll's dish almost catches fire, she asks Eric if he raised the flame
Bravo's 'Top Chef' is gearing up for some kitchen drama. Not that the show was devoid of it, especially with the kind of the challenges that were thrown at the contestants, but the claws are out now.
In the preview clip, we see Jennifer Caroll keeping her coriander and cashew butter to cook on one of the stoves. She puts it on a low flame, allowing the butter to steep. While she gets busy with other tasks, someone turns up the heat (we are not shown who) and the butter starts to stick to the bottom of the vessel. "I turned around and it was pretty much on fire," she said in her green-room interview.
She immediately checked with one of the fellow contestants, Eric Adjepong, if he had raised the flame. He assured he had not and in fact, he was the one to lower it. As she began stirring through the butter, Eric offered his two cents on it. He asked if she was able to scrape some off the top because that way she will still have enough to serve the judges.
Usually, a restaurant kitchen or even the ones on a competition series such as 'Top Chef' is extremely busy with people walking around looking for different food items, tools and such. So, there is no way to know who raised the flame on Jennifer's dish.
When such episodes occur, it is easier to just say that maybe somebody sabotaged her workflow, wanting to ruin her food with the intention of washing her out of the competition. But that would be a wild guess to make. Therefore, for now, it would be safe to say that it was an accident that could put Jennifer in trouble.
The competition has been fierce this season and the challenges are getting tougher every episode, which is why Jennifer has a big reason to worry. Previously, Stephanie Cmar was picked on and put at the bottom because her pasta was mildly undercooked.
Let's hope Jennifer is able to salvage the crisis at hand.
