'Tootsie' and 'Close Encounters' star Teri Garr rushed to hospital
Teri Garr had been rushed to the hospital for dehydration, a representative for the actress told PEOPLE. "Teri is fine and should be home tomorrow," the rep added.
The 75-year-old actress was taken from her San Fernando Valley home around 10.30 am on Monday to a local medical center, according to an article by TMZ.
It was 2002 when Garr announced that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, after battling symptoms for years. She said that she had started noticing symptoms around 1982 when she was filming 'Tootsie'.
She had played the role of Sandy Lester in the film 'Tootsie', which also starred Dustin Hoffman. Garr was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the comedy, that had been nominated for 10 Academy Awards. She also received the BAFTA nomination for her role in 'Tootsie'.
It has been a rough couple of years for Garr. In 2006, she suffered a brain aneurysm that left her in a coma. She recovered her speech and motor skills in therapy. She opened up about this difficult time in 2008, in the Late Show with David Letterman.
About the lessons she had learned from this painful episode, she said, "Yes. A lot of things, I guess, I've learned so much. I appreciate life every minute and I count my blessings. In fact, turns out I have so many blessings that I have a woman come in twice a week and counts them for me."
According to Garr, her "big break" came in the form of a role in a 'Star Trek' episode titled 'Assignment Earth'. She played the role of Inga in the 1974 comedy horror film, which is considered one of her most famous roles to date. She was also in the sitcom 'Friends' as Phoebe Abbott, in three episodes.
Garr has a 26-year-old daughter named Molly O'Neil who she adopted with her ex-husband John O'Neil.
