'Losing my respect': Tom Hanks trolled over old video saying he has no respect for people not wearing masks

Tom Hanks was among the first celebrities who announced that they had contracted the Covid-19 virus

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tom Hanks is facing a lot of flak online after an old clip of him asking people to wear masks, saying that he has no respect for those who don't, resurfaced and is now going viral. In the video, Hanks is heard saying, "There’s really only three things we can do in order to get to tomorrow: Wear a mask, social distance, wash our hands.” While the video is from 2020, when the COVID pandemic was taking millions of lives worldwide, after being posted on Twitter, several netizens have started trolling the 'Forrest Gump' actor. 

Notably, Hanks was among the first celebrities who announced that they had contracted the Covid-19 virus. In a statement posted to Instagram on March 12, 2020, Hanks said he and his wife were traveling in Australia when they tested positive for the coronavirus. "We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive," Hanks wrote.

On January 21, twitteratti James Cintolo posted a video of Hanks from a 2020 press conference for his movie 'Greyhound', with the caption, "Tom Hanks Says He Has No Respect For People Who Will Not Wear Masks." Since being shared, the post spread like wildfire, garnering over 1.6 million views and being retweeted over 3,000 times, with most netizens trolling the actor for his views. 

Commenting on the post, one user wrote, "Dear Tom Hanks - you are totally correct - you do NOT get it! And we have lost respect for you as well man." A second user commented, "I'm losing my respect for Tom Hanks. Still, it's his work that I like, not him personally." Speaking on similar lines, a third user opined, "Yes, I've had many sleepless nights worrying about what Tom Hanks thinks." A fourth user wrote, "Not looking for respect from tom hanks."
