The 21-year-old son of Christian rapper TobyMac, Truett Foster McKeehan, was found to have died of an accidental overdose of fentanyl and amphetamines, according to the autopsy results that were reported earlier on January 22. Just one week prior to his death, the aspiring artiste had performed his first solo gig with his proud father in attendance.

The body of Truett Foster McKeehan, the oldest child of TobyMac, was discovered by his close friend at the McKeehan family's Tennessee home on October 23, 2019. An autopsy was subsequently conducted at the Nashville medical examiner's office. A representative for TobyMac confirmed on January 22 that two drugs were found in Truett’s system following the autopsy — fentanyl and amphetamine and these caused his tragic death.

Quoting the Davidson County Medical Coroner in Tennessee, reports state that the youngster died from "acute combined drug intoxication".

The cause of death was said to be accidental and no foul play was suspected. In the report, Truett's summary under the pathological diagnoses column was listed as a "young adult white male with a history of drug and alcohol abuse and possible use of nitrous oxide".

It was further noted during the autopsy that the medical examiner found his body was "in an early state of decomposition", that it had "multiple small healing scars" and a "dusky brain". It was also reported that his internal organs were "in a state of autolysis" at the time of the examination.

The examiner also concluded that there was "no evidence of internal trauma" and that postmortem toxicologic studies indicated "the presence of multiple substances in the blood". TobyMac, aka Kevin Michael McKeehan, immediately postponed his week-long Canadian tour to return home to his family in Franklin, Tennessee, on receiving the tragic news of his son's death in October.

Earlier this January, TobyMac shared a heartfelt tribute for his oldest son Truett, titled '21 Years'. The day before releasing the song, the grieving rapper thanked his supporters on social media and talked about the heartbreak he underwent while writing the song for his son, who was also an aspiring young musician.

Prior to his son's death, the singer had also released a candid track called 'Scars' that talked about his relationship with Truett after his son moved out of their family home.

TobyMac and his wife Amanda Levy McKeehan have set up a foundation to honor the memory of their son called the Truett Foster Foundation. It aims to raise funds for aspiring musicians like Truett Foster McKeehan, an aspiring and talented musician who was taken too soon.
