Actor Toby Kirkup, who appeared in 'Peaky Blinders' and 'Emmerdale', died alone after being sent home from hospital after complaining of chest pain. The actor was 48 years old. He died alone at his home in Linthwaite, hours after returning from Huddersfield Royal Infirmary on August 29, 2020, an inquest heard on Monday, July 12.
According to reports, the actor was diagnosed with gastritis and was discharged home on the same day. He had reported a tingling sensation in his arms and bouts of chest pains. According to an inquest at Bradford Coroner's Court, Toby's condition deteriorated as he began vomiting and suffered a cardiac arrest. The post mortem report concluded that the actor died of natural causes. During the hearing, coroners officer Catherine Toner told assistant coroner Katy Dickinson that the 'Emmerdale' actor had previously suffered drug and alcohol issues. Even his family had concerns about the actor's medical treatment and had requested a coroner examine his death. The hearing has been adjourned till September 30, reports say. Toby's brother Dominic who runs a hotel in Torquay refused to comment after the hearing.
Toby appeared as a police sergeant in the BBC hit 'Peaky Blinders'. Apart from that, he also appeared in ITV's soap opera 'Emmerdale'. His other performances include a number of Shakesperean roles for a Manchester-based theater and an appearance on Channel 4's 'The Mill'. Toby studied drama at the University of Huddersfield and worked as a writer, stagehand, TV presenter and actor.
