Tina Turner’s son Ike Jr 'tried to eat' crack cocaine and meth before arrest, cops say
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Just a few weeks before his mother died in May, Ike Turner Jr, the son of the late Tina Turner and her ex-husband Ike Turner, was arrested on crack cocaine possession and tampering with evidence and lodged in a Texas jail. Ike was incarcerated in the Brazoria County Jail on May 6 and hasn't made his $70,000 bond, according to jail records. On May 24, 'The Best' vocalist Tina died at her longtime residence in Switzerland.
Ike Jr was stopped that day for an equipment violation at an Alvin traffic signal, according to the Alvin, Texas, police department, who said either his headlight or taillight was out. He was then observed by officers trying to ingest drugs that were in his possession, and they seized 1.7 grams of crack cocaine and 0.7 grams of methamphetamine as a result.
Capt QT Arendell of the Alvin PD said, "He tried to eat the drugs before the officers could seize them from him." According to the incident record, a passenger named Jessica Salinas-Esquivel was also accused of having methamphetamine in her hands, as reported by NewYork Post.
Before marrying Tina, Ike adopted Ike Jr and Michael Turner
Before marrying Tina, Ike adopted Ike Jr and Michael Turner, who were later adopted by the couple after their 1962 wedding. Ike had a cocaine problem and was known for being an abusive husband to Tina. He was sentenced to 18 months in jail starting in 1989 for possessing cocaine; he died in 2007 from a drug overdose.
In a 2018 Daily Mail interview, Ike Jr claimed that his father "beat me in the head with a nickel-plated .45 pistol" for briefly serving as Tina's sound engineer when the pair split in 1978. Ike Jr's father has struggled with an escalating cocaine addiction since the 1970s.
Ike had a long history of drug-related arrests and charges
Ike had a long history of drug-related arrests and charges, but he is most known for shooting a 49-year-old newsman in the leg in 1981 and leaving him bleeding on his lawn in Inglewood. Ike eventually completed an 18-month jail term for possessing cocaine, which began in 1989. At the age of 76, he overdosed and died. Ike Jr stated that it had been more than ten years since he had spoken to his mother, as per reports.
