Tim Tebow gets engaged to former Miss Universe Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters in a romantic proposal witnessed by close family
After the engagement, the couple’s friends and family came out of hiding to the shock of Nel-Peters, who had no idea that her family had been flown to attend the special occasion.
Congratulations to the happy couple! According to a new report, Tim Tebow is now engaged to his former Miss Universe girlfriend, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters. The former NFL quarterback proposed to his girlfriend on Wednesday at his family's farm in Florida.
As per People's exclusive reveal, the couple, before the proposal, were apparently strolling along the property and stopped next to a small lake. A specially made bench engraved with the date the couple first met, along with an arbor had been priorly installed by Tebow near the lake, where the two sat down to talk.
Tebow and Nel-Peters spoke for about five minutes and discussed their relationship and its future in hushed tones before Tebow dropped to one knee. “Demi Leigh Nel-Peters, I love you,” he said. “Demi Leigh Nel-Peters, will you marry me?”
As a blushing Nel-Peters said yes, the Heisman Trophy winner slipped a 7.25-carat solitaire ring on her finger. “This ring is internally flawless,” he said. “Just like you.” But the to-be-bride's surprises weren't yet over, for Tebow got South African singer Matthew Mole to serenade the couple with “The Wedding Song,” one of their favorite songs.
The entire proposal, as per reports, was a family affair, with Tebow having Nel-Peters’ family and closest friends flying in to witness the engagement. His parents, siblings, and friends also witnessed the exchange, albeit at a distance. Tebow didn't want any of their movements to ruin his surprise for his lady love.
“I actually wasn’t really nervous,” Tebow told People. “I was excited. I wanted everything to be perfect and to go smoothly. But I wasn’t nervous to actually ask her.” After the engagement, the couple’s friends and family came out of hiding to the shock of Nel-Peters, who had no idea of the people who had flown halfway around the globe to attend the engagement party.
During her speech, Nel-Peters jokingly apologized to Tebow’s father. “I’m sorry you didn’t get a new truck,” she said, “but you’re getting a new daughter!” in reference to the cover story made up by Tebow to get his now-fiance to come to his family farm in Florida. As for the upcoming wedding, Tebow says: “It’s going to be really exciting, and I can’t wait.”
