Ellen DeGeneres has revealed that she will soon end her famous daytime chat show, ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’, which has been airing since 2003. She told The Hollywood Reporter on May 12 that the upcoming Season 19 of the program will be the concluding one.

“When you’re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged – and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore,” the 63-year-old added. And since then, several reports have said that Tiffany Haddish will take over Ellen’s daytime slot.

Did Tiffany Haddish audition for daytime slot?

Haddish is not new to ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ or to hosting it. Since October 2020, she has appeared twice as its guest host after the comedian found herself embroiled in toxic workplace controversies.

A senior NBCUniversal source told Page Six: “Tiffany is a favorite, she has humor and empathy in spades. She’s top of the list to get a daytime show – she’s a fresh voice.” Haddish filled in for DeGeneres last October and this April. Apart from those appearances, she has also been flexing her hosting muscles on 'Kids Say The Darndest Things' on CBS.

But even as rumors swirl about her being poised to take over Ellen's daytime host crown, guest-hosting, by itself, is nothing new. Stars like Alec Baldwin, Howie Mandel, Justin Hartley, and Jennifer Aniston have hosted the talk show, syndicated and produced by Warner Bros.

According to TV Insider, in September 2019, Ellen had said, “Throughout the season, I’ve had wonderful people filling in for me as guest hosts. It’s a tradition that dates back to Johnny Carson, he would have guest hosts all the time. And I like to follow tradition, especially if it involves me missing work. You know how you can call in sick to work if you don’t feel well? I can’t do that."

She added that for 15 seasons she had "been here every day" even when she was "sick or have a bad back or get a paper cut." She then said: "I mean, I’m a hero. I work in day in and day out to bring you some of the best entertainment a show can ever offer, so I decided that once in a while I need to take a day off... to run errands or buy a house.”

Reports even said that people loved Haddish as the host of ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ and they were not surprised with her appearance as the 41-year-old had extended her support to Ellen during her interview on the program. “I mean, you the best. You know, I love you and I support you 110%,” Haddish said when the television host thanked her for coming on the show.

She was also reportedly Ellen’s first guest host after she faced allegations of cultivating a toxic work environment, which resulted in the firing of executive producers Ed Glavin and Kevin Leman, and co-executive producer Jonathan Norman.

Meanwhile, social media users seemed happy with Haddish replacing Ellen. One user said, “This is a whole new level for @TiffanyHaddish. We wish you with nothing but success.” Another one tweeted, “@TiffanyHaddish Congratulations. You earned it. Thought this was going to happen when TH hosted Ellen for a week earlier this year. Stay humble. Good things are happening for you.”

There were also some people who appeared not quite happy over the end of the iconic show. “Didn’t she sign up for another 4 years recently to continue the show. I wonder what she’ll do next or if she’ll just stop being in the public eye forever,” a person wrote. The second one added: “I'm not surprised but I'm kinda sad in spite of everything. The show brought joy to so many people, including myself.”
