Thomas Markle admits he lied to Harry about staged photos before hanging up on him: 'I’m not proud of that'
Meghan Markle's father has now admitted that he lied to Prince Harry about a staged photoshoot in the days leading up to their wedding.
According to Thomas Markle, he once told his future son-in-law how the photos that showed him lifting weights and running up a hill to fit his measurements for a wedding suit had not been purposely set up, Yahoo News reports.
However, Thomas revealed in the Channel 5 documentary 'Thomas Markle: My Story' that he admitted to Harry he was paid for the photos after being painted as a “dumb, fat slob” by the media. The disgraced father believes his daughter will never see him again.
“I got approached by a guy who spoke to me and said, ‘I can change your image’," Markle said in the documentary. “The idea was that these would all be candid shots, discreet, no one would know they were posed or anything. But he keeps saying, ‘You’ve got to trust me. I’ve done this a hundred times.’”
Prince Harry had called him to ask whether the photos were staged. “I denied it. And of course, that was a lie," he added. "I lied to him. I’m not proud of that, but I did.”
The embattled father, who admitted that the deal would “haunt me for the rest of my life," also recalled how he hung up on the prince after his inquiry.
“Harry said to me, 'If you had listened to me, this wouldn't have happened to you'," Markle recalled. “I said to him, ‘It's too bad I didn't die because then you guys could pretend you were sad,' and then I hung up on them. I was done.”
In the documentary, Thomas also accused his daughter and son-in-law of saying 'trashy things' about him and revealed that he cried upon watching Meghan tie the knot with Prince Harry. He also shared that Meghan had promised she would look after him in his 'senior years'.
