MOSCOW, IDAHO: On Friday, October 30, Moscow police announced the arrest of 28-year-old Bryan Kohberger at Albrightsville, Pennsylvania on the suspicion of murdering four University of Idaho students. Police Chief James Fry confirmed the arrest and cemented the reports that the suspect is a PhD student at Washington State University who lives at the University of Pullman, Washington some 10 miles away from the crime scene.
Fry also stated that detectives are still investigating key pieces of information in the case, such as the weapon used to murder the four college students. Furthermore, the investigation is still ongoing and the department could not officially confirm if suspect Bryan Kohberger knew the victims. Meanwhile, the Latah county prosecutor said that the "arrest is not the end of the investigation" and has asked the public to come forward and help the department, to understand everything about the suspect and the motive behind this heinous act.

"That's part of the investigation as well; it won't be something that will come out at this point in time. But as we continue the investigation, and as this case goes to trial, that will be brought forth," the police chief said. Fry also acknowledged frustration among family and the community about case updates not being shared very often. "From November, investigators have been laser-focused on pursuing every lead in our pursuit of justice. This complex case took extensive work to develop a clear picture of what occurred," Fry said in a news release."These murders have shaken our community and I know that no arrest will restore the families or bring these young students back." Fry said that Kohberger had the option to return to Idaho voluntarily if not so, Moscow police will initiate extradition proceedings through the governor’s office. “If we do that, it can take a while for him to get here,” he said.
Meanwhile, Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson said a criminal complaint was filed on Thursday, charging the suspect Bryan Kohberger with four counts of first-degree murder and felony burglary. "There's a pending case now in court and I and any office and the investigators have to live with the restrictions that our Supreme Court places on pretrial publicity. That said, I promise you we will share with you, through the court process or otherwise, whatever we are allowed to. I just appreciate your patience on that," he said in a press conference. Thompson said the factual basis for the charges is summarized in a probable cause affidavit, which is on file with the court. The cause affidavit will remain sealed until Kohberger is physically back in Latah County and is physically served with the arrest warrant, he said.
Thompson stated that Kohberger had his initial appearance in front of a judge in Pennsylvania and was being detained without bond. He will appear in court again on Tuesday afternoon, and he will be represented by a public lawyer. Once back in Idaho, Kohberger is anticipated to appear before a magistrate for the first time, and further hearings will be set accordingly.
He went on, alluding to the suspect identified by investigators, Bryan Kohberger, 28. "You will now know the name of the person who's been charged with these offenses. Please get that information out there. Please ask the public, anyone who knows about this individual, to come forward, call the tip line, and report anything you know about him to help the investigators and eventually our office and the court system understand fully everything there is to know about not only the individual, what happened, and why," he said.
