Saying goodbye can be hard and if you have to bid farewell to something that’s been an integral part of you for so many years, it gets even harder. It was a similar moment for millions of people as ‘This Is Us’ just aired the final episode of its ongoing season, which is also the show’s last episode ever.

In the previous episode, we witnessed the death of Rebecca Pearson (Mandy Moore) and how she played an important role in everyone’s life. She was the pillar of strength for the Pearson family and her death is really the saddest thing in the show’s history. The entire Pearson family came together for her and showed why family is the most important thing in the world.

‘This Is Us’ Season 6 Ending Explained: Jack and Rebecca tell Big 3 what life really is

So, just like always, we start with a flashback scene where Jack and Rebecca are talking to each other about a scar on Rebecca’s face. She revealed that it happened when her father’s watch hit her face while playing. It made him feel really bad. A few moments later, Rebecca realizes that Randall’s Math contest is postponed, which means that they have the whole day to spend together.

But it seems that Kevin and Randall are not in the mood to spend the day together. It’s only Kate who’s excited about that and gives the idea of what they should be doing. While watching home movies, Kevin and Randall go to their room because they feel that it sucks. The reason they are feeling this way is that they are going through a rough period. Some kids are making fun of Kevin because he couldn’t do a sit-up. Meanwhile, Randall lied to his parents about the cancellation of the Math contest because he was suspended from it for giving it back to a child who was calling him “fuzz” for having facial hair.

Rebecca told Kevin that it is okay because everything won’t come easy in this life and he would have to work hard for it. Also, she revealed that their doctor said he (Kevin) would be over six feet tall. This made Kevin feel really good. On the other hand, Jack said that he can’t make someone feel good if he’s so hard on himself, but he knows one or two things about facial hair. He showed Randall how to shave.

Kevin joined in and started shaving as well. It’s when Kate called them for a game and they believed that she only plays baby games. That’s when Jack told them that she understands the meaning of life. When people are small, they don’t realize how amazing everything it is. However, when people get old, all they want to do is to go back and be young. So, these are the moments that people should be living to their fullest.

Randall and Kevin believe that their father is weird now. Jack laughs when they say that.

‘This Is Us’ Season 6 Ending Explained: What is the sex of Deja’s baby?

After giving a rousing eulogy at Rebecca’s funeral, Randall gets a flashback about his father meeting Randall’s children. William believed that the relationship between a grandparent and a grandchild is nothing but pure love. However, he would never understand the relationship because he knows that they will only remember a fragment of him. He wanted to be a bigger part of their lives and wishes to spend more time with them, but he doesn’t even know if they’ll remember him.

Randall said that they’ll remember him a lot and it all comes back when Deja tells Randall the sex of the baby. Deja reveals that she’s having a boy and she wants to name him William.

Randall gets really emotional and happy because all his life he has been surrounded by women in the household and he finally has a boy now.

‘This Is Us’ Season 6 Ending Explained: What happened to the Big Three?

The Big Three were really sad after their mother’s funeral. While discussing the future, Kate reveals that they are going to live how their mother told them to love: fearlessly. Kate is going to open so many music schools for the impaired children while Kevin is going to be more into charity and work in the non-profit organization that he has set up.

Meanwhile, Randall might go to Iowa to attend a conference that might take his political career to a whole new level and he’ll go there for his mom (Rebecca). But Kate was really nervous about the future as well and thought about what will happen if they drifted apart. Kevin and Randall tell her that nothing like that will ever happen and if she drifts, they are going to drift after her.

‘This Is Us’ Season 6 Ending Explained: Jack’s reunion with Rebecca

Rebecca and Jack reunited again after death. Rebecca is sad that she’s leaving her kids, but Jack tells her that she’s always going to be there with them. In between, we see glimpses of how the entire Pearson family is playing the same “pin the ponytail” game that they used to play when they were young.

Jack tells Rebecca that she did good, really good in raising them and she will always be in their lives.
