Thiago Alcântara has put pen to paper on a long-term contract with Liverpool Football Club after a permanent transfer from FC Bayern Munich. As per a Guardian report, the player has inked a $52 million (£41 million) deal. After the deal was sealed, Thiago told Liverpoolfc.com: “I think it’s an amazing feeling. I was waiting for this moment for a long time and I am very, very happy to be here.”

“When the years are passing, you are trying to win as much as you can – and when you win, you want to win more. I think this club describes what I am as well; I want to achieve all of the goals, win as many trophies as possible,” he said, adding, “It also [has] this kind of family [feeling] that I need because we [like to] have a very close relationship with the club and I think I will feel this, I will have this feeling, with this club as well.”

As the news stunned football fans, many were keen to know more about his personal details. Here's a sneak peek of his wife and his early life.

Son of former Brazilian player Mazinho

Born as Thiago Alcântara do Nascimento on April 11, 1991, he was raised in San Pietro Vernotico, Italy. A player for the Brazilian national team from 1989 to 1994, his father Iomar do Nascimento, known as Mazinho, was playing for nearby US Lecce that time. His mother, Valéria Alcântara, was reportedly a former Brazilian volleyball player and his younger brother, Rafinha, plays for Barcelona.

When Thiago was just five, he moved to Spain with his father and started playing with the Galician team Ureca in Nigrán. In 2005, when he moved back to Spain, he signed with FC Barcelona. His cousin, Marielo Dos Santos, was also on the same team. Back in 2013, Thiago signed a four-year deal with Bundesliga club Bayern Munich, for a $29 million (€25 million) fee. As per reports, the transfer came despite a new contract from Barcelona which valued his release clause at $106 million (€90 million).

Chance meeting and romance

A chance meeting with future wife Júlia Vigas started their love story. According to Oh My Football, the pair met when he was playing for the Spanish giants Barcelona in 2012. Soon, they started dating and when Bayern Munich offered the midfielder a contract in 2013, Vigas followed her boyfriend to Germany.

As per The Sun, Júlia was born and raised in Barcelona and she partly owns a three-star hotel Terramar on the Costa Brava with her brothers and father. As per reports, she belongs to the family of Berta and Enric Vigas and her father is a businessman. After a three-year-long relationship, the two decided to take things one step ahead and reportedly got hitched in a lavish wedding ceremony in Sant Climent de Peralta, Catalonia, Spain on June 27, 2015.

The couple have been spotted at Oktoberfest quite often and seem to be quite happy with their quaint life in Munich with son Gabriel Alcantara – born in May 2017 and daughter Siena Alcantara – born in February 2020.
