'They're not movie stars’: Chris Hemsworth recalls 'depressing' criticism his character Thor received
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Chris Hemsworth has established himself as an A-list actor in Hollywood and a lot of the credit goes to his role as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Hemsworth’s career trajectory is an impressive one and is now expanding into action-filled titles like ‘Extraction’, he is still best known for being Thor. His latest movie, ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’, was a box office hit but it seems that Hemsworth isn’t too pleased.
Some of the biggest directors of all time, such as Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino, have looked down upon Marvel. Hemsworth hasn’t been too pleased with how Scorsese and Tarantino responded to Marvel, but not in an angry way. Hemsworth is one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood and has a shiny career, but it looks like this Australian heartthrob has taken things to heart.
‘Super depressing’
In a Spotify podcast, back in November 2022, Tom Segura sat down with Tarantino and, among other things, the topic of Marvel came up. Tarantino had a lot to say but regarding Thor, he said, “They’re not movie stars. Right? Captain America is the star. Or Thor is the star. I mean, I’m not the first person to say that. I think that’s been said a zillion times…but it’s like, you know, it’s these franchise characters that become a star.” Hemsworth responded to what Tarantino said, along with Scorsese who has also made remarks about Marvel. “That’s super depressing when I hear that. There go two of my heroes I won’t work with. I guess they’re not a fan of me,” said Hemsworth in an interview with GQ.
Thor’s biggest critics
While Hemsworth has expressed his disappointment with his biggest heroes not liking his work, he might have more critics to worry about. No, these critics aren’t even remotely close to the film industry but have some very strong opinions. We’re talking about Hemsworth’s son’s friends. In the same interview with GQ, Hemsworth recalled what they said, and it all was something along the lines of the children noting, “We thought this one had too much humor, the action was cool but the VFX weren’t as good.”
In addition to these harsh little critics, Hemsworth chimed in with his own critique about ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ as he said, “I think we just had too much fun. It just became too silly.” Could all this criticism be the end of Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Only time will tell. For now, fans have ‘Extraction 2’ to look forward to. The film will release on June 16 on Netflix, where viewers can see Hemsworth in action, without the hammer, of course.
