'The Witcher' cast found out about Henry Cavill's exit from show only after filming of Season 3 concluded
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The cast of 'The Witcher' has come forward to reveal that they were blindsided by Henry Cavill's departure from the hit Netflix series. Cavill, who announced in 2022 that he would be stepping down from his role as Geralt of Rivia, left his co-stars in the dark until after filming for Season Three had ended. The news left the cast reflecting on their shared experiences and looking forward to a new chapter with Liam Hemsworth taking on the role.
In an interview, Freya Allan, who plays Ciri, said, "We found out quite a few months after. We just wrapped a season like any other season and I think we were all exhausted. We've all put in so much hard work and really kept as a team throughout the whole process, so it was nice lasting memories. But we found out quite after so it wasn't really like we knew at the time."
'The baton of the Witcher is going to be passed over!'
MyAnna Buring, who plays Tissaia, also shared her thoughts on Cavill's departure. "We wouldn't have Henry's Superman if the baton of Superman wasn't passed over, and now the baton of the Witcher is going to be passed over, and I think that's a wonderful thing," she said.
Warner Bros and DC Studios recently announced that they were casting David Corenswet as the new Superman in James Gunn's highly-anticipated film 'Superman: Legacy'. Cavill previously held the role of Superman.
Furthermore, as the news of Cavill's departure continues to make waves online, there are rumors galore about the reason behind his decision. Some reports claimed that tension between Cavill and showrunner, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, may have played a part, according to Radio Times. Nevertheless, the cast of 'The Witcher' remains optimistic about the future, believing that Hemsworth will bring his own brilliance to the character of Geralt of Rivia.
'It's going to be really exciting and really fun!'
Speaking about the future of the series, Buring said, "Henry set this up for us. It's gorgeous. What he's done is brilliant. It's thrilled fans for three seasons now. And now the baton is going to be handed to Liam and it's going to be really exciting and really fun." With Season 3 Volume 1 of 'The Witcher' set to premiere on Netflix on June 29, fans are eagerly anticipating the continuation of this epic fantasy saga. Volume 2 drops on Netflix on July 27.
