With the last appearance of Michonne in the series for the foreseeable future, it's worth looking at how her story goes in the comics

Spoiler alert for 'The Walking Dead' Season 10 Episode 13 'What We Become'

We may be seeing the last of Michonne (Danai Gurira). At least, we've seen the last of her in the foreseeable future. Her story's end, if that's what it is, is left in a very uncertain place — after Rick Grimes' (Andrew Lincoln) disappearance.

She has found the first piece of evidence that he may be alive and she is going to be searching for him. Where that leads is anyone's guess, because as most fans know, the show has veered far off course from the comics' run.

One of the major differences between the comics and the show is that Michonne and Rick never ended up together as a romantic couple and they most certainly did not have a child together. Michonne, in fact, had a reunion with her own daughter.

The survivors come across one of the largest settlements they've ever seen since the apocalypse began, known as the Commonwealth. It is a city large enough to hold concerts, have open parks and give people a semblance of what their lives were like before the apocalypse began.

There, Michonne finds that her daughter is alive and well. And if Michonne chooses to live in the Commonwealth, she can live with her daughter, hang up her sword and resume her life as a lawyer.

In the final issue of 'The Walking Dead,' set at least a decade after the Commonwealth arc, we discover Michonne's career as a lawyer has been quite successful. She has risen to the head of the Commonwealth's high court as Judge Hawthorne.

Taking on the name of her ex-husband, she has left the identity of Michonne behind, as she did her sword. Her sword, in fact, was given to Carl (Chandler Riggs), who survived right on until the end in the comics.

Michonne's end in the comics sees her find peace. She has left the violence behind, the threat of death, and instead enjoys a respected career as a high court judge, as well as a close relationship with her daughter and her grandchild.

The Michonne of the TV series has a long way to go before she can even have a semblance of that life, but if her arc is anything like the comic's, there's hope in her future.

The next episode of 'The Walking Dead' airs on March 29 on AMC.
