'The Voice' season 16 winner Maelyn Jarmon reveals the best advice coach John Legend gave her

Prior to the grand finale, MEAWW caught up with the Voice finalists on the red carpet as they looked back on their journey this season.

'The Voice' season 16, on Tuesday night, crowned its winner.

After a tough few weeks of auditions, cross battles, duets and more,  four contestants remained in the race to take the coveted title. On May 21, Maelyn Jarmon from Team John Legend took the crown leaving coach Blake Shelton's boys, Dexter Roberts, Gyth Rigdon, and Andrew Sevener behind.

After performances by BTS, Taylor Swift & Brendon Urie, Hootie & the Blowfish, Jonas Brothers, One Republic, Halsey, and Khalid, the series counted down the votes and revealed its winner.

This was Legend's first time being a coach on 'The Voice' and even though he was the most blocked coach this season, he managed to coach Jarmon into a winner.

Prior to the grand finale, MEA WorldWide (MEAWW) caught up with the finalists on the red carpet as they looked back on their journey this season. Talking to Jarmon we asked her how it was to be the only female and non-country singer in the finale. "You know, it was a challenge for me because they are not just country, they are great. They are really great singers, artists, so I just don't see them as country, I think of it as a way that I have to be up to the challenge and make sure that I am challenging myself and giving my best performances. So that is how my mindset was," revealed Jarmon.

Talking about the best advice she has received from her coach, Jarmon said, "He has really taught me to trust my instincts. I questioned myself a lot before I got here, but he is so supportive of all of my ideas, and that was so cool. He is very collaborative, and has really taught me to trust my artistry and embrace that."

Following Jarmon, runner up Gyth Rigdon spoke about moving into the finale with two other contestants from his team and if he ever imagined it to happen the way it did. "Absolutely not, right from the start, I knew that everybody on Blake's team was incredible and everyone on the show is incredible. But what was really cool is that I never thought that I would make it this far, but it is really cool that me, Dexter, Gyth, Andrew and Rod who is no longer with us we struck a bond since day one and we became best friends on the show and outside life. And so to be amongst great friends here in the finale is an incredible thing to be a part of."
