UNIVERSAL CITY, CALIFORNIA: After catching the attention of not one but three coaches during the blind auditions, 'The Voice' Season 22 contestant Madison Hughes quickly became a fan-favorite contestant. The 25-year-old's ability to hit low notes effortlessly impressed BlakeShelton enough to fight with wife Gwen Stefani and fellow coach Camila Cabello to get her onto his team. So after all that hype, fans were excited to watch the Florida resident's battles round performance.

For the battles round, Blake paired Madison against Kate Kalvach and picked Poison's 'Every Rose Has Its Thorn' as the battle song. While both Madison and Kate managed to impress Blake and battle advisor Jimmie Allen with their talents and unique strengths. When it was time for the final performance, Kate clearly managed to outshine her opponent. The way Kate effortlessly hit high notes and moved her body during performance left the coaches floored. On the other hand, Madison's low notes were highly appreciated as well, but the coaches couldn't help but point out how her vocals seemed a bit pitched and off-key in a few places. When it was finally time for Blake Shelton to pick the winner of the battle, the OG coach immediately named Kate.

While fans agreed with Blake's pick for winner, they, however, couldn't help but wonder about Madison's lackluster performance. Several fans took to the show's YouTube clip of the performance to question if everything was fine with Madison. A fan commented, "I think there is something wrong with Madison's voice and energy." "Madison definitely sang like she was going home. I think she has potential though so I hope she comes back," pointed out a fan.

"I wonder if Madison was sick here or undergoing some sort of vocal injury? Definitely didn't get a lot from her this round but it sounds like she at least has a cool twangy tone. Kate was a bit sharp and times but def displayed some killer pipes," wrote another fan.

Another fan shared, "I felt like this battle didn't give madison an opportunity to really showcase her voice and the different qualities behind it. that being said, Kate absolutely killed it and it was evident that she was the winner by the middle of the performance for me."

"I felt like Madison didn’t shine as much to me. She sang harmony for most of the song. I felt like she could have gone a bit higher. My favorite part of what she did was, “Yeah, it does”," observed another fan.

"Madison barely did anything here. She didn't show off any of her talent, as well as she sounded very shaky and pitchy, But Kate was excellent," declared another fan.

'The Voice' Season 22 airs every Monday and Tuesday at 8/7c on NBC.
