‘The Undoing’ Finale: What did Sylvia tell Stamper in the washroom? Fans say sorry for suspecting ‘real’ friend

Spoiler alert for ‘The Undoing’
David E Kelley's ‘The Undoing’ took viewers on a wild ride with the season finale. After mind-boggling theories and over-the-top speculations, the HBO show charted the same path as Jean Hanff Korelitz's 2014 novel ‘You Should Have Known’ to lay the blame of Elena Alves' murder on Jonathan Fraser (Hugh Grant). The joke is now on fans: Clearly, you should have known better!
One thing that viewers got incredibly wrong was their suspicion of Sylvia Steinetz (Lily Rabe) — who actually turned out to be a real friend for Grace Fraser (Nicole Kidman) and helped her get Jonathan convicted by slipping out some confidential information to Catherine Stamper (Sofie Gråbøl).
In the end, Grace truly “f**ked” Jonathan and their lawyer Haley Fitzgerald (Noma Dumezweni) up by revealing confidential family information about how Jonathan neither felt “grief nor guilt” after the death of his baby sister. It seems like a clear set up to get Jonathan convicted. Even as she repeatedly says Jonathan was never violent, the 911 call plays out to show a terrified Grace calling for help.

It's crystal clear: Grace and Sylvia plotted the trial scene while walking in the park. Sylvia then met Stamper in the washroom and while they don't show the conversation that followed, Sylvia's eyes had the truth hidden in them. She slipped all the details that could prove Jonathan is guilty.
Now, fans can't stop apologizing to the character for thinking she could have killed Elena instead of Jonathan and wondering if she was the other affair Jonathan had. “Dear Sylvia: we are sorry.. we still don’t know if you’re the other mistress but, a friend indeed you were,” one fan wrote
Another said, “Finally watched the #TheUndoing and I got it so wrong that I’m not sure I know who to trust anymore. That man knew what he did and still tried to blame his own son. Woo. I’d like to formally apologize to Sylvia and Franklin.”
Many are even hailing her for being a good friend. “Everybody accusing Sylvia and she was just a good friend,” one wrote and another posted, “Her. Them. We all need a Sylvia.” A third said, “How good were those fake-outs in #TheUndoing?? Grace’s blackouts and flashbacks. Franklin’s hatred of Jonathan. Sylvia always being nosey. Henry’s discovery of the weapon. And yet, the killer was so obvious. We knew it from the beginning. David Kelley at his best.”
