However, fans were left stunned when they saw Ben alive in the trailer for Season 3. According to the synopsis, Season 3 of ‘The Umbrella Academy’ is set in a timeline that has been altered by the actions of Hargreeves siblings in 1960s Dallas.
The new timeline sees the introduction of Sparrow Academy, a group that is much different than the Umbrella Academy, and the person leading the group is none other than Ben Hargreeves. In the trailer, we saw The Umbrella Academy returning to 2019 after saving the world from destruction. However, as soon as they return they realize that they don’t belong here. Everything is changed at this time. Their house is now being used by strangers, Reginald is still alive, and Ben is still alive. He is not just alive but also leading the new group of humans with superpowers.
But one thing that strikes the most between the two teams is that Sparrow Academy seems to be more united than our team of heroes. Maybe, that’s one of the reasons why Ben is still alive in the new timeline. If you have been watching the show since the beginning, then you know that the Umbrella Academy was going through a rough patch. Ben died and Five made everything worse when it comes to dealing with family problems, so they never looked like a team.
On the other hand, it looks like the Sparrows go through everything together. They have been together with each other through thick and thin, making us realize that the team never let anyone die even when they were battling some of the evilest things.
Another reason is related to Ben’s powers. He was just any other member of the Umbrella Academy, but he’s the leader of the Sparrows, which means he is more powerful than he ever was in the past. In the trailer, we see how every member of the Sparrow Academy treated him like a leader and even Reginald gave more attention to him than any other member. So, his powers might also be one of the reasons why Ben is still alive in this timeline.
It’s still a mystery how Ben died, even in the original comics, the creators have never revealed how he died. However, Reginald has always blamed the Umbrella Academy for Ben’s death. Many people feel that it was never Umbrella Academy’s fault and blamed Reginald for Ben’s death because he made him a member of the Academy even when he was not fully prepared.
We will be really happy if Season 3 of ‘The Umbrella Academy’ give some answers on how he died and also, how he managed to become the leader of the Sparrow Academy.
