'The Umbrella Academy' Season 3: Elliot Page 'proud' about how Netflix handled his transition on show
Spoilers for Season 3 of 'The Umbrella Academy'
Season 3 of ‘The Umbrella Academy’ has finally arrived on Netflix and it’s certainly making fans a little more emotional than the previous editions. One of the most extraordinary points about the latest season is how Page’s character Vanya transitions into Viktor in the simplest way possible. However, it managed to create a lot of impact.
In the first two seasons of the show, Page starred as Vanya Hargreeves and discovers that she is the most powerful of all the seven siblings. In 2020, Page stunned the world by coming out as transgender and revealed how lucky he feels to have arrived at this place in his life. The makers were always ready to feature the transition on the show and made it clear that Page will remain one of the main cast members of the show. Episode 2 of the new season featured the transition of Vanya to Viktor and when he talks about his transition with Allison, it floored everyone.

'The Umbrella Academy' Season 3: Here's how the show introduced Elliot Page as Viktor Hargreeves
Talking about the transition sequence, Page revealed how Steve Blackman, creator of the show, was so eager to work with him and talk about incorporating his own transition into the show. The actor also revealed how trans journalist and author Thomas Page McBee helped in beautifully crafting his transition on the show.
He said, “Yeah it was, and really with Steve Blackman, the showrunner of Umbrella he is just incredible and such a wonderful person. So when we first talked about it, he seemed really excited about incorporating [my transition] into the show, and then incredible writer, journalist, and author Thomas Page McBee, who I met doing a miniseries called Tales of the City, wrote an extraordinary book called ‘Amateur,’ which I highly recommend everyone to read.”
Page also said how proud he was when he learned that his transition will be featured on the show and was excited that people are going to see that. He noted, “I feel proud of it and excited for people to see it.”
During Episode 2, we see Viktor (then Vanya) having flashbacks of his romance with Sissy. That was the first step of his transition and he then visits a barber. He gets a new haircut and introduces himself to the other members of the team. Diego, Five, and Klaus are happy to learn about the transition. However, the most amazing moment comes when he speaks about the transition to Allison.
While discussing, he said, “You couldn’t have known because I didn’t fully. Being with Sissy, I don’t know, she opened something in me. Showed me I’d never be free hiding from who I really am. And after losing her I realized I just can’t live in that box anymore. I won’t.” At the end of the discussion, Viktor and Allison stop in front of the shop where Allison asks him, “What do you see now?” Viktor proudly says, “Me. Just me.”
It was indeed one of the most important sequences on the show and the makers handled it quite effectively. On the other hand, Season 3 is a worthy addition to the Netflix series and currently holds a rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. The series is being praised for character development and the relationship between the various characters, including the transition of Viktor. Also, it’s the most emotional season yet.
‘The Umbrella Academy’ Season 3 is currently streaming on Netflix.
