MOSCOW, IDOHA: Prosecutors now say that they were not able to clearly tell who exactly was the real target of the University of Idaho murders that took the lives of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin. Prosecuting Attorney Bill Thompson told News Nation that the phrase "targeted" might not be the best word to use in relation to the Idaho murders. Investigators know that the residence was the target, however, they do not have evidence of a specific individual being targeted.
Thompson reportedly said, “It seems the word ‘targeted’ has different understanding for different people who are listening, and perhaps this is not the best word to use. The bottom line is whoever is responsible for this is still at large. That can’t be changed. My understanding is that investigators believe that whoever is responsible was particularly looking at this particular residence. That’s all they can offer at this moment.” He added, “There’s a part of the investigation where investigators are trying to figure out who might be the target."

As expected, several social media users were unhappy after hearing this information this. A person wrote on Reddit, “Yeahhhhhhh, so I feel like we’re about one or two more interviews away from LE telling us this was a random serial killer.” “Yeah this is devastating news. The victims being the target makes it far more likely that it was someone they knew who had a grievance with them. The house being the target… some asshole staked them out. That is much much worse and makes me think, could it happen again,” another added.

Someone wondered, “So, are they saying, the killer targeted a specific home setting first (ie. Seclusion, little to no outdoor lighting)? And, then chose to kill there? The Golden state killer did similar aspects, when choosing victims to target.” “This is what I was thinking, too. Maybe the killer didn't know who specifically lived there, but knew pretty sorority girls hung out there, and the house had easy sightlines for him to prowl and creep around,” yet another user added. Meanwhile, the investigation has gone on for more than two weeks and cops are yet to make a breakthrough or any arrests. They are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
