The Masked Singer’ fans can celebrate as FOX has officially renewed the singing competition series for season 8. The news isn’t much of a surprise considering how successful the show has been running for the past seven years. The renewal comes shortly ahead of the Season 7 finale. The latest season has certainly been the most controversial to date due to the appearance of the former mayor of New York City Rudy Giuliani. The former mayor made headlines when he appeared as Jack in the Box and his reveal prompted judge Ken Jeong to walk off stage.

Craig Plestis, the show's executive producer, said at Deadline's virtual Contenders event that they're working to make Season 8 bigger and better. The producer said, "It's a challenge to outdo ourselves and to come up with some things that are going to sparkle and get  America excited. I think there are some ideas that we're playing with FOX that are going to be super exciting and the first time that we ever see something." With some fresh changes to the format of the show, the FOX singing-talent show is definitely upping the ante.

Before the performance, the judges and the audience are thrown a lifeline, seen that they're given a clue package with a hint that regarding the performer's true identity. The judges and the panel then vote for the performers, based on their performances. The performer with the lowest vote gets eliminated, but not before they reveal their identity.

FOX describes the show as, “Hosted by Nick Cannon, with panelists Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke, “The Masked Singer’' is a top-secret singing competition in which celebrities face off against one another while shrouded from head to toe in an elaborate costume, concealing his or her identity. With each performance, the host, panelists, audience, viewers and even the other contestants are left guessing who is singing behind the mask. What is the buzz around 'The Masked Singer' Season 8?

Season 8 of 'The Masked Singer' will be featuring some major changes to its format, with a King/ Queen of the Hill as its premise. The new format will feature three rounds of three episodes, and the winner of these rounds will move to the semifinals round. There can be three or four singers per episode and there will be new masked competitors each week.
Craig Plestis told Entertainment Weekly, "So there's the [first] three episodes, we get a king or queen. We do another three episodes, we get another king or queen. Another three episodes, you get another king or queen. So that's how we get to our three finalists for the semifinals," he explained.
There will also be themed episodes that determine the song choices for a given night, in addition to the costumes and set designs. All of this will likely offer hints as to the identity of the singers behind the masks. "We've upped the ante a little bit with these themes to make it easier for the home audience to play along," said Plestis. "If it is a Vegas night or if it is a, whatever theme it might be, it helps you with the clue and the guessing games as well."
