'The Marvelous Mrs Maisel' Season 5 Episode 5 Review: Susie and Gordon Ford's wife's past seems to catch up
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Amazon Prime's 'The Marvelous Mrs Maisel' Season 5 is all about moving ahead and bidding adieu to your past selves, but what if the past isn't easy to let go of? The story of Miriam 'Midge' Maisel's success is rooted in many sacrifices that consist of learning, unlearning, and going through bouts of hardships. But, the best part of season 5 still comes out as great, as it highlights the lives of others growing up with Midge.
One of the lives is of Susie Myerson, Midge's manager who has been with her through dingy clubs and now through consistent fame. But, there is something about Susie, that was highlighted all through Episode 3 of Season 5 and finally into Episode 5. 'The Marvelous Mrs Maisel' releases new episodes every Friday on Amazon Prime. The show's cast concludes of, Rachel Brosnahan, Michael Zegen, Alex Borstein, and Luke Kirby in the lead.

What is Susie hiding?
During the ice-skating scene, Susie excuses herself from Midge and enters Gordon Ford's office. While snooping around, she finds a picture of Gordon and his wife. The expressions on Susie's face change and turn into something that takes her back to a memorable period in time. While everything is speculation about Susie's life and past, it is intriguing for the viewers to be left with nothing to chew on. While we understand the relationship dynamic between Gordon and his wife, and that they have a supposed "understanding," hinting to the fact that it's an open marriage and the era the show is based in isn't very accepting of the idea of an open marriage. This then points us to the fact that Gordon's wife might be a lesbian and their marriage was something that was just for the external world and the inner secrets are more intricate than it seems.
Why hasn't 'The Marvelous Mrs Maisel' touched the topic of Susie's sexuality?
As the show is set in the late 1950s and early 1960s, it wasn't very highly of people to be out about their sexuality. It can be recalled as a taboo topic, but there were more layers to it. 'The Marvelous Mrs Maisel' is seen from a third-person perspective and narrates the story of Midge Maisel and her rise to success, but her supporting character deserved the spotlight too. There might be many assumptions about why the production is hinting at Susie's sexuality so late in the show, but for what it's worth, it might be a signal about how they give an ending to her character once the show ends. While we are hoping for Susie and Midge to be friends in the future, we also hope that the production does justice to the story of Susie Myerson.
'The Marvelous Mrs Maisel' is now available to watch on Prime Video exclusively.
