VENTNOR, ISLE OF WIGHT: An award-winning eaterie has slammed the vegan customers after receiving outrage for not including many plant-based dish options in the new menu.

The Kitchen at London House on the Isle of Wight took to its Facebook profile to hit out at 'nasty' and 'bullying' vegans who are criticizing the restaurant for its decision of scraping the vegan dishes. The outrage from the vegan community on the island came after the restaurant posted the evening menu for Fridays and Saturdays on their Facebook page.

Excluding the vegan dishes, the evening menu of the restaurant boosted main dishes including short rib of beef, confit duck leg cassoulet, and sea bass. Defending their decision, the restaurant in Ventnor said they used to serve plant-based dishes specially designed for vegans. But now they have decided to stop due to the "militant minority."

One user slammed the restaurant for not including any main dish for the vegans and wrote, "No vegan mains!!" Another user said, "It was already in mind that the vegan food was a burden, so why not point a finger - we all do it. Of course, they should serve as they wish. It's a great opportunity to open, them or someone else, a vegan restaurant. All of the food we eat is a choice, just like what is served is a choice. Honestly many of the comments are Holier-than-cow attitudes, which isn't a burden to some.”

While some users criticized the restaurant, some users came out to defend it. “If you need to eat Vegan, Halal, or Kosher how about you go find a Vegan, Halal or Kosher restaurant and leave the people who don’t subscribe to such to live their lives? The majority do not need to subscribe to your world view and it is rather conceited you think we do… jog on” the third user said in the favor of the restaurant.

The backlash from the bully vegans was at the level that the restaurant was forced to defend itself within three days of posting the new evening menu. The Kitchen at London house wrote a second post lamenting the "bullying" comments they received and explaining why they had stopped catering for "holier-than-thou" vegans.

Bistro owner Sally Cooper who wrote the Facebook post, on Sunday, August 14 revealed they decided to stop catering vegan dishes after the staff at the restaurant started to get abused. "I would say ‘Hang on a second, they’d look down their noses at us’. We’d tell them what vegan options we could offer them and they’d said it was disgusting," she said.

"It's a small kitchen. We produce tasty, home-cooked food. We don't want to cook plant burgers, pulses, and beans. It's not our food." She added.

The restaurant is well-known for homemade pastries, quiches, cakes, and scones and has won awards in the past for its artisan bread, and is also famed for its homemade giant sausage rolls.
