'The High Note’: Why fans can't stop talking about the bizarre plot twist and Dakota Johnson's ‘hot’ character
Movies are one of the biggest stress busters during the lockdown and 'The High Note' seems to have worked magic for fans. A new comedy-drama starring Dakota Johnson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Zoë Chao and Ice Cube, it centers around Maggie, the personal assistant of a famous singer who dreams of being a music producer. The film opened to mixed reviews from critics, with some calling it "leisurely-paced, relatively grounded and rooted" and others slamming it as "a forgettable Hollywood fairy tale". However, it seems to have struck the right chord with movie buffs on Twitter. Apparently, it is the movie's ending that's making people jump out of their seats. In reviews, the plot twist has been summed up as "outrageously silly" and "a true eye-roller" but fans seem to love it.
"Watching #TheHighNote and it’s making me remember how much I wanted to be a singer when I was growing up, and how badly I still want to record a song with someone. Plus the amazing @kelvharrJR is amazing," one fan posted and another wrote, "What a twist in #TheHighNote just when I thought I had the plot figured out made it a girls night and was not disappointed." One said, "The plot twist should've been the ENTIRE premise of the film! It was more about the assistant than Grace Davis... overall good movie," and another wrote, "Just finished watching @thehighnotefilm it was incredible! Dakota is in literally every scene, Everyone is amazing in it! No spoilers from me. But there’s a twist somewhere in it."
"I really, really enjoyed the movie #TheHighNote! I hope it gets the attention it deserves because the whole cast is truly incredible and #KelvinHarrisonJr is an absolute smoke show," one viewer said and another posted, "@TraceeEllisRoss your voice!!! #TheHighNote brought me some joy in this dark time!"
Praising the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' actor, one fan said, "#TheHighNote was so wholesome! Dakota Johnson did a great job." Another wrote, "Dakota Johnson as Maggie is the best thing so far in this decade. She's so chill, cool and hot at." One fan, however, was left confused. "I have a few questions: 1. When did music artists start using aliases? 2. Who thought it was a good idea? What was his stage name?" one said and another posted, "When Maggie said 'If you could point at any time in my life, good or bad, I could tell you who I was listening to and how I got through it' I REALLY FELT THAT!"
Directed by Nisha Ganatra and written by Flora Greeson, the movie was released digitally through video on demand on May 29, 2020, by Focus Features after the theatrical release on May 8 was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
