The Introduction of Red Death/Ryan Wilder

Episodes 3 and 4 of Season 9 of 'The Flash' revealed to us the possible potential of the big bad villain of the final season, but it has raised some eyebrows as well. While fans of 'The Arrowverse' were more than happy to see Leslie back on with the Bat symbol, her portrayal as the villainous Red Death/Ryan Wilder has once again proved the fact that being a Bat in 'The Arrowverse' was not a good thing. Episode 4 of 'The Flash', titled 'The Mask of the Red Death, Part One', revealed Ryan Wilder from another Earth, who was adopted by the Wayne family. On that other Earth, after the Waynes are murdered, Wilder becomes Gotham's protector. However, her approach towards capturing criminals are questionable. After seeing how the captured criminals would escape their imprisonment, a frustrated Wilder makes the gadgets, inspired by the villains to fight them. She takes things further when she steals Flash's power and accidentally kills her best friend. This leads to her banishment and arrival into the main timeline of central city. She now needs the Cosmic Treadmill to get back to her timeline, which raises the stakes for the final season. This is not something new.

The unlucky Bats

Though 'Arrowverse' avoids Bruce Wayne's Batman extensively, several members of the Bat Family can be seen in many other CW shows with tragic storylines. In 'Batwoman', after Batman disappears, his cousin Kate Kane becomes Batwoman, the protector of Gotham. Things did not go well for Kate either. After losing her family in the a bridge accident involving the caped crusader, she joins the Point Rock Academy but gets expelled due to her sexuality. She then dies in a horrific plane crash while searching for Bruce Wayne.

The list is not over yet. Kane's stepsister, Mary Hamilton, has the misfortune of witnessing Alice murdering her mother. Alice is Mary's other stepsister. Luke Fox (Batwing), another member of Team Bat dies and is resurrected only to have severe PTSD. The current Batwoman also is shown to have had a tragic and difficult life. Wilder was a homeless child in Gotham City before finding Batwoman's suit amid the wreckage of a plane, the same one Kane was in. These incidents only cement the fact that that the Batfamily was mired in tragedy on CW's 'Arrowverse'.

New episodes of 'The Flash' Season 9 will premiere every Wednesday on CW18 and the episodes can be streamed on the CW app later.
