Spoilers for 'The Flash: Armageddon' Episode 3

'The Flash’ is going through some massive changes and fans are absolutely loving how Barry Allen and the entire team are being put into different situations that might change the world forever. When Despero (Tony Curran) arrived on Earth, he said that something will happen that will drive Barry (Grant Gustin) mad and force him to destroy the world he deeply loves.

During Episode 2, we got to know one of the scenarios that made him mad and it was Joe West’s death. Barry was not able to remember that Joe already died six months ago and he completely goes off the chart as Iris tries calming him. After which, Barry calls Jefferson Pierce, aka Black Lightning (Cress Williams), to take away his powers before he hurt someone and do what Despero has shown him through his powers.

'The Flash' Season 8 Episode 1 Review: Team Flash gears up for fight of their lives

A great fight sequence takes place between Jefferson and Barry as Jefferson doesn’t want to take his powers because this is not what Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) would have wanted. Jefferson feels that The Flash is the best among us and he doesn’t want to see a hero like him losing his powers. Meanwhile, Despero reaches there and is about to kill Barry when Jefferson holds him up with lightning. Iris (Candice Patton) reaches there as well and tells Despero that someone messed up with the timeline to make them believe that her father is dead.

In the ending moments of the episode, Barry uses his powers to travel into the future and see what actually happened. Barry is in 2031 and sees the board that read “West Party”. He goes inside the venue and to his surprise sees Thawne making an emotional speech on the stage while Iris, Ryan (The Batwoman), and Cecile are also present there.

To everyone’s shock, Thawne is now addressing Iris as his “love” and it seems that they have been engaged to each other. As soon as the speech finishes, Iris looks at Barry and everyone else as well looks at him. Ryan says, “What’s he doing here?” as they all gear up for a fight. Meanwhile, Thawne has a diabolical smile on his face as the episode comes to an end.
The last 3-4 minutes of the episode made us realize what could drive him mad. First, he lost a man who was like a father figure to him. Then, in future, he loses the only woman that he deeply loves and it’s Thawne who has taken her away from him. The seeds of madness are being sown into Barry’s mind and it will take a lot of resistance to keep them out.

Will Barry be able to overcome the challenge? And why is Thawne messing up with the timeline? The answers to these burning questions will be given in future episodes.

‘The Flash’ Season 8 returns to The CW with a new episode every Tuesday at 8 pm EST.
