'The Flash' season 6: Why Gideon has a key role in helping Team Flash learn about the 'Crisis on Infinite Earths'
Gideon, the AI in 'The Flash' has been a pivotal source of information since season 1. While she was initially used by Eobard Thawne (Tom Cavanagh), she was actually created by Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) in the future. Come season 6, the AI may just play a very important role in helping team Flash source as much information as they can regarding the impending 'Crisis'. This theory stems from showrunner Eric Wallace's quote to TV Insider. "You might get that answer in our season premiere," he said. This implies that the superhero group may look to her to give them anything that would give them an edge in the multiverse-shattering battle.
Thawne brought Gideon back in time in season 1 and since she hails from the future, it's safe to assume she is aware of some events that Barry and Co. are yet to experience. Plus, her ability to keep track of any alterations in the timeline makes her a valuable source of information. For instance, she accurately tracked the time flux that moved the 'Crisis' from 2024 to 2019.
Thawne, who was later revealed to be the Reverse-Flash also used Gideon to record and catalog his notes about Barry since he was struck by lightning and his heroics as "The Flash" ever since. He later used it to search for the Flash in future newspapers after his abilities were repressed by Blackout but to no avail. After Barry regained his abilities, Gideon was able to find the Flash in an article from 2024, reporting his disappearance in the 'Crisis'.
Season 5 also proved Gideon's existence during the event. Nora West-Allen (Jessica Parker Kennedy) watched a video Barry had recorded before vanishing in the 'Crisis'. He had left the video for Nora unaware that she had visited him in the past, suggesting Gideon was used during the unaltered "Crisis" timeline. Nora, after becoming a member of Team Flash used Gideon as a medium to communicate with Thawne who was imprisoned in Iron Heights in 2049 using a form of 'time text' that survives changes in the timeline.
