‘The Diplomat’ Episode 7 Takeaway: Kate Wyler meets the Russian ambassador
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘The Diplomat’ has showcased a brilliant upward graph in terms of character development and the progress of the story because the series truly keeps getting better with every episode. ‘The Diplomat’ Episode 7 serves as the penultimate episode of the series, and because of that, the stakes were higher than ever. The cast continues to give their best performances, but where is the series headed?
‘The Diplomat’ isn’t just about politics or political relationships, as the title and genre may lead you to believe. This series focuses largely on relationships: personal, romantic, and working. Truly, there is something for everyone in this series, and if nothing, you can watch it for Rufus Sewell, who shines through in different ways, every episode.

Unlikely meeting between Kate and Balakin
‘The Diplomat’ Episode 7 starts off a little differently compared to the previous episodes. This time around, we have a more intimate beginning, a tender yet playful moment shared between Hal and Kate, laced with uncertainty. Since ‘The Diplomat’ Episode 7 started off this way, we couldn’t help but wonder which route this episode would go, but there was a hunch that it wouldn’t be playful for the entire runtime, and that hunch was correct!
It isn’t long into ‘The Diplomat’ Episode 7 that we find out that Kate will be meeting the Russian ambassador, Balakin, and the tensions have risen even before the meeting actually takes place. Albeit this was bound to happen, the viewers will find themselves on the edge of their seats. The meeting goes slightly different from what one would anticipate, once Kate and Balakin take their seats opposite each other, and everyone else waits outside. On the outside, all anyone can hear is Balakin screaming, but there’s something else happening inside the room.
What does Balakin give Kate?
As Balakin screams at the top of his lungs, feeding into the political Russian stereotype, he hands Kate a note with an address on it, gesturing her to take the back exit. Kate is confused and unsure, but she does it anyway, and to keep the pretense up, Balakin continues screaming, letting the people outside know that the meeting between him and Kate was still in progress.
Kate makes her way to a wine shop, where a woman takes her downstairs, closing the door behind her. Major props to Kate for keeping calm this whole time, because if it was anyone else, they might have panicked. The woman gives Kate some valuable information – when and where she can find Roman Lenkov. At this point, alarm bells are ringing all over. Kate and the viewers are all a little unsure because the Russians were giving Lenkov up. What does this truly mean, and can Kate trust Balakin?
