Here's why Johnny Depp 'STOLE' Amber Heard's beloved 1968 Mustang
Former celebrity couple Amber Heard and Johnny Depp have been in the hot seat, undergoing one of the most closely followed celebrity trials in recent history. After Depp filed a $50-million libel case against Heard over her 2018 opinion piece in the Washington Post, both testified in a Virginia courtroom to a global audience. Now that the case has finally come to a close, people have started to resurface the story of Heard’s Mustang which was stolen four times. Well, the fourth time it was not really stolen but was taken as a part of Depp’s prank.
Amber Heard's father, David Heard, and ex-husband Depp pulled a terrific prank on her, making her believe her ‘68 Mustang had been stolen for the fourth time. They included an actual cop cruiser in the scene, along with a dummy cop and a slew of other actors. If you watch the video, you'll notice that Amber becomes enraged and demands that her car be returned. Thankfully, the farce came to a stop before things got too out of hand. Why was the prank carried through? It was all for the sole purpose of personalizing the Mustang into a far better condition for Heard.

Heard bought the car while she was a rising star in Los Angeles in 2003, characterizing it as "a beautiful piece of junk” in its original state. Heard explained on Overhaulin’ saying, “The car cost me every dime I had and continued to cost me for the first eight years that I lived in LA.” The silver Mustang caused Heard grief not just because of the upkeep bills, but also because it was stolen three times over her 12 years of ownership, once for six months.
“[Each time it was stolen ] I would upgrade my system of security only to be [foiled again],” the actress told Jimmy Kimmel on his talk show. “I found it every time – one time it took six months but they got it. They gutted it pretty good the last time; that crushed me pretty good.”
“I park it on the street for one minute and someone takes it for a joyride but they always recover it," Heard said in another interview with the Sunday Mail. But 2014's "theft" was committed by Depp and her father. As a surprise for Heard, the men banded together to "abduct" the automobile and have it restored to its former splendour by well-known California-based automotive designer Chip Foose.
Overhaulin' documented the renovation, which included changing the car's colour from silver to red and installing an all-white interior.
