Previously in Episode 7, we saw Detective Danner (Tiffany Haddish) have an epiphany that leads her to determine the identity of the murderer. But to confirm her suspicions, there is one more person she needs to question and that is Maggie (Everly Carganilla), Zoe (Zoe Chao), and Brett's (Ike Barinholtz) daughter who was also present for a large chunk of the afterparty. Taking the child's details into account she clears the whereabouts of Jennifer 2(Ayden Mayeri) and gathers the group to finally reveal the killer.

She points out that in the 5 versions she heard, three people were always absent from the room - Aniq(Sam Richardson), Brett, and Maggie and that leaves the two men as suspects. She pins it on Brett but Aniq points out it cannot be Bett. But this was just a test as she reveals the killer to be Yasper(Ben Schwartz), who had the fakest story and who was the most upset with how his life turned out. While he denies it, Danner breaks down the story which saw Yasper make a mistake in his alibi and it helped her unravel the mystery further. What happened, in reality, was that Yasper who wanted to restart his music career had planned everything in advance and misused his power as the AV system installation guy to snoop through Xavier's(Dave Franco) home and music files. This saw him find a song called 'How great is this party' that he decided was a ticket to his comeback. But he is later turned down for a collab by Xavier who told him that Yasper himself is to blame as he broke up their band and is now a nobody.

A still from 'The Afterparty' (Apple TV+)

This hurt his ego which is when he decided to exact vengeance at the afterparty by secretly recording his voice on the song, killing him, then saying that Xavier gifted him the track, thus using the latter's fame to begin a musical career. Something snaps in him which later sees him confront Xavier and eventually push him off the balcony onto the rocks below. After being caught, a bitter Yasper, till the end repeats that he gave Xavier his name, fame and that he stole his phrase 'How great is this party' so he rightfully deserves a piece of it. Caught red-handed with Xavier's phone at the end, there is no denying that he is the killer and is promptly arrested.

And that folks, is how Danner cracked the case and marked the end of the hilarious, confusing story.

The entire season of 'The Afterparty' is available to stream on Apple TV+.
