'That's sick': Costume enthusiasts are being warned not to dress as Jeffrey Dahmer for Halloween
After being released at the end of September 2022, 'Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story', starring Evan Peters as the renowned serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, climbed to the top of the Netflix rankings. As Halloween approaches, the public is being urged not to dress up like the mass murderer who is thought to have murdered and dismembered 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991.
Some fans expressed their worry on Twitter about the timing of the show and the probability that people might imitate the serial murderer in the name of a famous holiday, fearing costumes of the fearsome killer would be in abundance as Halloween edges closer. Users on Twitter have urged people to not dress up as the serial killer, Dahmer, this Halloween as one user wrote, “If I see any Jeffery Dahmer Halloween costumes I’m gon start swinging."

It might seem unlikely that trick-or-treaters would want to dress as a convicted murderer just because of a TV show but this is not the first time that a well-liked Netflix series has impacted people's Halloween costumes. 'Squid Game', one of the most popular shows on the platform last year, really rocked the world. Even after November 2021 ended, the series managed to stay in the top 10 lists. The show's recognizable green tracksuits became the go-to Halloween costume as a result of a flood of costume producers jumping on board. The Global Times was informed by Chinese costume makers in Yiwu, Zhejiang Province, that sales of various costumes from the series reached up to 3,000 units every day. Furthermore, a different employee in Futian, Guangdong Province, claimed that their plant had to "work overtime" to keep up with the overwhelming demand.
