Terri Irwin is remembering her late husband Steve Irwin on the day that they decided to get engaged.

The wife of the late 'Crocodile Hunter' took to social media on Sunday, February 2 to share an adorable tribute to the beloved animal activist while commemorating their engagement anniversary.

The 55-year-old shared on Twitter, "It was 28 years ago today, here at @AustraliaZoo, that Steve asked me to marry him. Life is constantly changing. Love is forever."

The couple had first met in 1991 when Terri had stopped by a small reptile park in Australia where Steve was working as a zookeeper.

She told People that sparks were immediate between the two. "Right away we were talking about wildlife, and our passions in life and I kept thinking, 'I wonder if this guy’s married'," she revealed.

"He said to me, ‘Would you like to meet my girlfriend, Sue?’  I tried to be cool about it, but I was devastated. Then he goes, ‘Hey Sue... Suey, come here.’ And his little dog came running around the corner. ‘This is my girlfriend, Sue,’ he said. I thought, 'Yes!'" she continued.

Even though the two got along instantly, Terri returned home to Oregon and recalled how Steve promised her that they would be in touch.

"He said, ‘We’ll have to keep in touch,’ but then a week went by and he hadn’t called, and two and three. I thought maybe I misunderstood what I thought the connection was," she shared.

A month later, he called and told her that he was coming to see her in Oregon. The pair then got married in 1992. They have two children together: Bindi and Robert.

In the year 2006, Steve had been working on a documentary series 'Ocean's Deadliest' when he was attacked by a stingray and died at the young age of 44.
