Musician Ted Nugent landed himself in a bit of controversy for sharing his thoughts about the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. In a viral video shared via Facebook Live on April 7, the ‘Stormtroopin’ hitmaker claimed that he was not afraid of coronavirus and asked why there weren't lockdowns during, what he claimed were previous coronavirus discoveries.

In a 12-minute video shared from Nugent’s official Facebook account, the singer-songwriter went on to share his frustration about the global health crises and slammed the entertainment companies for canceling his tours due to the strict coronavirus restrictions.

“I ain’t scared. I ain’t scared of nothing. We are not waiting for any authorization from any bureaucratic entity to say, ‘you can go ahead and tour now.’ You know, this year’s tour is canceled again. Are you kidding me? The production companies won’t let us tour again this year. Dirty, bastards, lying, scam, smoke and mirrors, Covid-19 freaks,” Nugent said in the video.

Later in the video, the 72-year-old musician asked the viewers that he needed to get an answer to one question that has been bugging him for quite a while now. He said, “You know, I guess I would ask you — because I’m addicted to truth, logic, and common sense — and my common-sense meter would demand the answer to why weren’t we shut down for Covid one through 18?”

The video spread like wildfire on social media and users did not take much time to tell him why scientists named the virus “COVID-19”. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the “19” in Covid-19 refers to the year in which the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) was first discovered.

Entertainer and Michigan native Ted Nugent -- also known as the Motor City Madman -- performs the Star Spangled Banner during a campaign rally for U.S. President Donald Trump at Capital Region International Airport October 27, 2020 in Lansing, Michigan. With one week until Election Day, Trump is campaigning in Michigan, a state he won in 2016 by less than 11,000 votes, the narrowest margin of victory in the state's presidential election history.

‘How can someone be so blatantly idiotic?’

Social media did not leave any stone unturned to let Nugent know that he asked one of the dumbest questions of all time and started trending his name on Twitter. One of the users said, “Ted Nugent's first hit song was called Journey to the Center of the MInd, which is ironic since every time he opens his mouth he proves that a journey to the center of HIS mind will reveal utter and complete emptiness.”

Another user said, “Has anyone stepped up to correct Ted Nugent that the 19 in Covid-19 means 2019 and not 19th in a line of 18 viruses before it? I want my $4.75 back from that 1979 concert!!” Another user noted, “I wish my sister could've hung out with Ted Nugent in the last few days of her life when she had no symptoms before COVID killed her.”

“Not that I wanted two straight Ted Nugent tweets, but how can someone be so blatantly idiotic as to ask why we weren't shut down for Covid's 1-18? The ignorance is mind-boggling!” wrote another one. Meanwhile, another user noticed, “Ted Nugent's comments about COVID are a great example of how MAGA is not about having a particular set of opinions. It's about believing things that are false. It's about believing things that aren't true.”

Apart from the aforementioned query, Nugent also went on to ask viewers why the nation did not “shut down” during the AIDS epidemic or “the Spanish Flu.” According to Forbes, the US went into a similar kind of lockdown for the 1918 influenza pandemic, which was previously referred to as “The Spanish Flu.”

As far as the coronavirus is concerned, more than 576,000 people have died in the US due to the deadly illness. As of late, four states have recorded more than 2 million cases since March 2020.
