Spoilers for 'Ted Lasso' Season 2 finale

The second edition of the Apple TV+ series ‘Ted Lasso’ has mostly been about how people have been coping with their own struggles. However, we all know how important this season is for Richmond FC as they need to win their next game to get promoted to the Premier League.

During the Season 1 finale, Richmond lost their final game and got relegated to a smaller league. Despite facing all the challenges, the team reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup and lost against Manchester City. But the team showed that it has the caliber to compete against the best of the teams. The journey for Richmond hasn’t been easy and they need to win the last game of the league or even draw it to have another chance to compete in the biggest league in the world.

In the penultimate episode, Sam Obisanya (Toheeb Jimoh) took his team over the finish line and helped his team in getting a sensational victory. The team will play Brentford in the final league game and they just need to draw the game to get qualified for the Premier League. The game doesn’t start off well for Richmond as we see the team trailing by 2 goals in the first half.

During the break, a pep talk by Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) reignites the belief in every player that they can still win the game. The team comes out with a better approach and Sam scores a scintillating goal. They just need one more goal to draw the game and get through. In the final moments of the game, Jamie Tartt gets the ball and as he was trying to kick the ball, the goalkeeper comes in and tackles him dangerously inside the penalty box.

The on-field umpire gives Richmond a penalty kick and it’s Jamie with the ball. However, he takes the surprising decision of giving the ball to Dani Rojas (Cristo Fernandez). For the uninitiated, it was Dani who couldn’t score the penalty in Season 1 because of an accident. It was time for him to be the hero once again. He gets ready for the penalty and takes a deep breath, believing in himself that he can do it. Dani takes the penalty and scores. The game ends in a draw with Richmond scoring 2 and Brentford scoring 2 as well.

Richmond has been promoted to the Premier League and the entire stadium is dancing. The management, along with players and coaches are ecstatic after the victory and they are now getting ready for the big one.

I believe it was such an important decision to give Cristo another chance to redeem himself because of what happened the last time. Only a few people are lucky to get second chances and Cristo made sure that he took full advantage of it. So, Richmond has finally made it back to the Premier League. They need to do a lot of hard work because they will be playing with some of the biggest clubs in the world.
