Ted Cruz trolled as 'cheap' Pablo Escobar over Texas airport look, Internet calls drug lord a 'better person'
Republican Senator for Texas Ted Cruz landed in an ocean of controversy on Thursday, February 18, after he flew with his family to Cancun, Mexico, for a vacation, while his home state battled a severe winter disaster that left millions without heat, power or water. The senator later admitted that the trip was "obviously a mistake" and blamed the trip on his daughters saying he was trying to be a "good dad".
Netizens mocked the senator after he returned to Texas, with many saying that Cruz was "bullied" into canceling his family vacation. Some twitteratis had a gala time comparing his airport look to that of Columbian drug lord and narco-terrorist Pablo Escobar's outfit. Cruz wore an ash white t-shirt that was tucked at his belly, a pair of dark blue washed jeans and a facemask bearing the flag of Texas.

'Cheap version of Pablo Escobar'
Many took to Twitter and pointed out the uncanny resemblance between the senator and Wagner Moura, who played the Columbian drug kingpin Escobar in the Netflix series 'Narcos'. "looking like the cheap version of pablo escobar with that fit," said a tweet. "Hol’ up @tedcruz got that Pablo Escobar fit locked down," said another, posting a picture of the two men wearing similar clothing. "Not during a Pablo Escobar, but I do understand like wanting to “escape” with your children so you and them have something to do. It’s just tone deaf for Mr Cruz because Texas is a mess," said another. "Why @tedcruz looking like Pablo Escobar trying to escape the country?" said a tweet.

'Why compare a criminal to Escobar?'
People termed Cruz a 'criminal', saying, "Why they trying to compare a criminal to Pablo Escobar?" Another tweet added, "Ted Cruz thinking he’s hot shit abandoning his people...vs Ted Cruz when he didn’t think he’d get caught and has to come back acting like Pablo Escobar." Many agreed that Escobar was the better of the two because he took care of his wife and his people.
"lmaoo at least Pablo Escobar took care of Medellín and the rest of Colombia," said a tweet, while another said, "To his credit, Pablo Escobar did a ton for his local community." In a response to a tweet that mentioned how Cruz looked like a reincarnated Escobar, a Twitter user said, "Pablo Escobar was a better person, and he burned millions to keep his children warm."
