Perception of Senator Ted Cruz continued to sink even further, after he appeared on Tucker Carlson's show and "begged" for forgiveness on January 6, 2022. Cruz came on the show a day after Carlson slammed him over his comments in the Senate about the January 6 insurrection, telling the host he wanted to "tell you what I meant to say," prompting the Fox host to turn the screw even further.

The often trolled Senator has been repeatedly targeted by social media users and Democrats for sinking to new lows every time. In February 2021, he was reportedly trolled by his own Senate colleagues over his Cancun trip as Texas was left without power. He was also widely trolled as 'Ted Snooze' after he was caught napping at President Joe Biden's April speech to a joint session of Congress. Then in December 2021, he became a laughing stock for confusing Western Australia with Washington state, in an attempted attack on mask mandates.

Just when you thought things couldn't get worse for the senator, they did. The exchange between Carlson and Cruz quickly went viral, and many slammed Cruz for pathetically succumbing to Carlson's attacks.

I was 'sloppy and frankly dumb'

The whole exchange kicked off after a January 5 session in the Senate, where Cruz called the January 6 insurrection a "violent terrorist attack." Later that evening, Carlson took the Senator apart for the "sin", accusing him of "repeating the talking points that Merrick Garland has written.” Carlson went on to lie, "Of all the things Jan. 6 was, it was definitely not a violent terrorist attack. It wasn’t an insurrection."

The attack prompted Cruz to show up on Carlson's show on January 6, where the host continued to slam the Senator. "You call this a terror attack when by no definition was it a terror attack. That was a lie. You told that lie on purpose and I’m wondering why you did," he said. Cruz then said his words were "was sloppy and frankly dumb," but that didn't appease Carlson. "I don’t buy that," the host injected, adding, "You take words as seriously as any man who’s served in the Senate. And every word—you repeated that phrase, I do not believe that you used that accidentally. I just don’t."

Cruz then spent several minutes defending his use of the phrase, including at one point reiterating Carlson's talking points by saying, "We have now had a year of Democrats and the media twisting words and trying to say that all of us are terrorists." He spent around eight minutes being berated and questioned by Carlson, after which the Fox host uploaded the full exchange on Twitter-

'Cruz folded like a card table'

That quickly took over the network, leaving Cruz to once again be the target for trolls. "Lol Ted Cruz tried to uncancel himself by apologizing to Tucker and instead just showed the entire rightwing ecosystem what a pathetic, spineless, groveling bowl of jello he is," one person tweeted. George Takei trolled, "I’d say Ted Cruz got gut checked by Tucker Carlson, but we all know Ted Cruz is entirely gutless." One user said, "Ted Cruz won't defend his wife from Trump and won't defend himself from Tucker but still wants be commander-in-chief."

"Ted Cruz has no balls. What a pathetic loser!" one user laughed. Rep. Eric Swalwell also joined in, tweeting, "Holy smokes. Are you surprised @tedcruz
just backed down from @TuckerCarlson’s attack on him last night for Cruz calling January 6 a “terrorist attack?” Cruz folded like a card table. We know Cruz won’t defend his wife but now he won’t even defend…Ted Cruz?" Another reacted to the video, "In just 39 seconds, Tucker Carlson calls Ted Cruz a liar more than CNN or MSNBC typically do in 24 hours... which is saying a lot."

Suffice to say, things don't look great for Cruz right now. The Senator is already deeply unpopular with Democrats, and it appears his "accidental" reference to the truth might cost him some Republican allies as well.
