NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Taylor Swift's apartment on Cornelia Street, New York City, is reportedly up for sale at a hefty price of $18M, which is $6M more than the cost when it was last sold for $11.5M in 2019. Swift rented the idyllic townhouse for a short period of time back in 2016 when her $50M residence was undergoing renovations a few blocks away.

While the then 27-year-old singer only occupied the house for a temporary period, the venue left a remarkable impression on her life as ‘Cornelia Street’ became the title of one of her songs from her seventh studio album, ‘Lover.’ It is also believed that Swift fell in love with her ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn while she was staying in the said apartment, as per the Daily Mail.

Taylor Swift made ‘Cornelia Street’ a part of her album

The importance of Cornelia Street in Swift’s life was strongly visible in the 2019 song of the same name. In the track, the 'Karma' hitmaker talks about the early days of falling in love with a man, now believed to be Alwyn, whom she started dating while she was said to be living in the swanky apartment. She even mentions telling the mystery man about renting a home in Cornelia Street while sitting at the backseat of a car.

“We were in the backseat / Drunk on something stronger than the drinks in the bar / I rent a place on Cornelia Street,” Swift sings in the opening verse of ‘Cornelia Street.” “I say casually in the car / We were a fresh page on the desk / Filling in the blanks as we go / As if the street lights pointed in an arrowhead / Leading us home,” she continues.

In the song, Swift also talks about her fears of the relationship running its course and shares how it will be difficult for her to return to the location if the romance ever comes to an end. “And I hope I never lose you, hope it never ends / I'd never walk Cornelia Street again / That's the kind of heartbreak time could never mend / I'd never walk Cornelia Street again,” she croons.

Swift and Alwyn’s relationship came to an end in March. Nearly a month after announcing they had separated, realtors at the Corcoran Group posted a listing stating that the apartment on 23 Cornelia Street was up for sale. The luxurious 5,500sqft, five-bed residence is now up for grabs for a whopping $18M.

A look into the features of the Cornelia Street home

The stunning Cornelia Street townhouse was reportedly built in 1870 to store horse-drawn carriages. It was later turned into a luxurious five-bedroom abode featuring four full bathrooms, two half bathrooms, a tiled lounge area on the bottom floor near the pool and a garage, the Daily Mail reported. The residence also has several sizable windows, double heights ceilings, beautiful hardwood floors and three gas fireplaces.

The kitchen is designed with marble and granite counter tops and features an adjoining dining area with floor-to-ceiling casement windows that open onto the West Village. It also has a private backyard located away from the street. The street side bedroom inside the house looks onto the historic Cornelia Street, the publication noted. The grand master bedroom is situated down the hall and features high ceilings, a walk-in closet and a marble bath with its own glass enclosed shower, balcony and personal skylight.

The house also has its own outdoor lounge with a fireplace on the terrace. Further upstairs, there is a private rooftop access allowing occupants to witness unparalleled views of the sought-after neighborhood from the terrace. The top floor of the three-story house consists of two more bedroom suites, each with a private terrace.

‘I am the biggest fan of unique properties’

Staffers at Corcoran Group recently spoke to Curbed and shared that they were confident about selling the home with the hefty price tag due to its rich history and unusual features. “I am the biggest fan of unique properties,” said Sydney Blumstein, adding, “You can’t comp out a private swimming pool on a quiet street like Cornelia.”

Authorities of the Madison Avenue-based real estate firm also explained that the home would be ideal for a buyer who was eyeing a property that was located centrally amid NYC’s buzzing downtown and was also surrounding by a posh neighborhood that would provide peace and privacy to tenants. The apartment’s garage allows more high-profile buyers to enter and exit using their vehicles without the fear of being caught by the paparazzi, the outlet noted. “'Some people like having a pool and some don’t, but everyone likes a garage,” Corcoran Assistant Broker David Kornmeier told the publication.
