Cher has vowed to leave the United States if former President Donald Trump wins the presidential election in 2024.

During an interview with The Guardian published on October 18, the 'Believe' singer looked back at Trump’s time in the White House and said, "I almost got an ulcer the last time."

"If he gets in, who knows? This time I will leave (the country)” declared the Grammy Award winner.

A longtime vocal Trump critic, the performer had once called the 45th US president a “f**king traitor.” During an interview in 2018, Cher opined that Trump had done “so much damage” to the country.

Cher had claimed to leave US in 2016 too

This is not the first time that Cher, who was born Cherilyn Sarkisian, has stated that she would be getting out of the United States if Trump made it to the Oval Office.

The 77-year-old pop icon was one of several celebrities in 2016 who pledged to pack their bags if Trump, who was then a GOP presidential nominee, won his White House bid.

At the time, Cher wrote on social media that if Trump were to be elected, she would be “moving to Jupiter.”

She was not alone in her claim, as other celebrities who made a similar promise to leave the country if Trump won in 2016 included Miley Cyrus, Bryan Cranston, Samuel L Jackson, Chelsea Handler, and Amy Schumer, according to The Hill.

Internet trolls Cher over her announcement to leave US

Social media users have hit back at the singer over her statement, trolling her on X with posts and memes. The following paints a picture of the backlash.

"Last time whole Hollywood wanted to leave and I am still not finding any evidence that they left," one user said.

"Go now; why wait?" a social media user said.

"One more reason to vote for Trump! I hope she takes Rosie with her," one user said.

Another social media user said, "Still waiting for her to leave the first time…"

One user said,  "Leave now and make everyone happy including yourself Cher."

"I don’t believe a god darn word that any of these washed up so-called celebrities say because they all said the same damn thing when Trump ran the first time and not one of them kept their promise and left!" a user quipped.
